Academy Sports + Outdoors

Academy Sports + Outdoors is an American sporting goods discount store chain founded in 1938 that sells footwear, apparel, team sports equipment, hunting and fishing gear, camping, fitness, grills and backyard recreation, and NFL and NCAA fan shop items. National brands such as Nike, Jordan, adidas, Carhartt, Brooks, Blackstone, Pit Boss and XTRATUF sit alongside house brands like Magellan Outdoors. Orders placed on academy.com after clicking through from the ShopBack Academy page earn ShopBack cashback at the current published rate.

myAcademy Rewards is Academy's free loyalty programme; you join with an email address on academy.com or in the app. The verified perk is a lower free shipping floor: members get free standard shipping on orders of $25 or more before tax, versus $50 for guests. Academy also offers a myAcademy Rewards credit card that drops the free shipping minimum to zero. Points rules are shown to logged-in members, so check your account for the current terms. ShopBack cashback tracks on top of any member pricing as long as you clicked out from the ShopBack Academy page first.

Academy runs permanent Hot Deals and Clearance sections on academy.com and refreshes them weekly, so there is always marked-down stock. The big calendar moments for a US sporting goods chain are back to school in July and August, Labor Day clearance, Black Friday (November 27, 2026) and Cyber Monday (November 30, 2026), plus pre-season pushes for hunting, football tailgating and spring baseball. Confirm live offers on academy.com and the current cashback on the ShopBack Academy page before you buy.

Most unused items in new condition can be returned within 60 days of purchase. With a receipt you get a refund to the original payment method or an exchange; without one you need government photo ID and, if Academy cannot verify the purchase, you receive merchandise credit at the lowest price from the past 90 days. Firearms, ammunition, bows, crossbows, knives, tree stands, trading cards, fuel-powered items and titled boats or kayaks are final sale. Electronics, air beds, massage guns, bats, golf clubs and fishing rods must be unopened for a refund. Online orders go back to any store for free or by mail to the Academy Returns Center in Katy, Texas. Any refund voids the matching ShopBack cashback.

Academy is positioned as a discount chain with a heavy hunting, fishing, workwear and fan shop mix and a store base concentrated in the South and Southeast, while Dick's Sporting Goods skews toward higher-priced national athletic brands and a broader coast-to-coast footprint. For a Carhartt hoodie, a Blackstone griddle or a deer stand under one roof, Academy usually has the better price point; for the newest premium running or golf release, Dick's assortment is deeper. Both are on ShopBack, so compare the current published rate on each merchant page before you click out.

REI is a member-owned co-op focused on hiking, climbing, cycling and paddling with a premium outdoor assortment, whereas Academy is a discount generalist that covers team sports, hunting, fishing, fitness and backyard gear as well as camping. For family camping basics, coolers and fishing tackle, Academy's Magellan Outdoors house brand is the budget pick; for technical shells, climbing hardware or bike fitting, REI is the specialist. Check the ShopBack page for each store, because cashback rates and category exclusions differ.

No. Academy ships to the contiguous United States excluding California, and does not ship to Alaska, Hawaii or US territories. Expedited 2-day and 1-day delivery costs extra within the states it serves, and large, heavy and select items plus firearms and ammunition are excluded from free shipping. ShopBack cashback only applies to completed online orders, so a cancelled order outside the delivery area earns nothing.

Academy sells firearms and ammunition in store, with online listings for pickup, and these products are final sale and excluded from free shipping. Cashback merchants commonly exclude regulated categories like firearms and ammunition from commission, and ShopBack lists any exclusions in the terms on the ShopBack Academy page. If firearms are excluded, the rest of your cart can still earn cashback as long as you clicked through from ShopBack in the same session.

Empty any academy.com cart you already started, then click through fresh from the ShopBack Academy page. Log in to myAcademy Rewards for the $25 free shipping floor, add your items and pay in the same browser session. Avoid third party coupon codes, since unofficial codes can break the tracking. Cashback is calculated on the paid merchandise total, usually excluding tax and shipping, and shows as pending within about 48 hours. The current published rate and exclusions are on the ShopBack Academy page.

Yes. Any item you return within Academy's 60-day window has its share of the pending ShopBack cashback voided, because Academy only pays commission on kept merchandise. Size exchanges count as a return plus a new order, so make the replacement purchase through ShopBack again. Cashback confirms after the return window closes and Academy settles, typically 60 to 90 days after purchase. If pending cashback is missing 7 days after your order, file a missing cashback claim with the academy.com order number.
