NYC vs LA vs Miami for US Luxury Shopping 2026: Tax, Selection, Access

New York City, Los Angeles, and Miami are the three US luxury capitals in 2026, and picking between them for a shopping trip is rarely about the bag itself. It is about sales tax, appointment access, hotel base, and whether the flagship you need is actually on the block you land on. This guide walks through Madison Avenue and SoHo against Rodeo Drive and Melrose against the Miami Design District and Bal Harbour Shops, so a US luxury shopper in 2026 can pick the trip that fits the target on the shopping list.

The verdict

For most US luxury shoppers in 2026, all three cities repay the trip. The right choice depends on what is on the list.

New York City wins on breadth. Madison Avenue between 60th and 79th is the densest concentration of European maison flagships in the country, with Chanel, Hermes, Prada, Celine, Loewe, Louis Vuitton, Loro Piana, Brunello Cucinelli, and Valentino inside a 20-block walk. Add Bergdorf Goodman on Fifth Avenue and Saks Fifth Avenue on 49th, plus SoHo flagships for Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta, and Dior, and no other US city carries the same house count in one trip. Sales tax runs about 8.875%. Compare cashback on shopback.com before your luxury shopping trip to layer cashback on flights and hotels booked through ShopBack Travel partners.

Los Angeles wins on contemporary, denim, and West Coast exclusives. Rodeo Drive holds the flagship block between Wilshire and Santa Monica, with Chanel, Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Dior, Gucci, and Celine anchoring the three-block strip. Melrose Place and Melrose Avenue add contemporary designer flagships (The Row, Chrome Hearts, Marc Jacobs, Alaia) that carry small-batch or LA-exclusive drops rarely available on Madison. Sales tax runs about 9.5%. Book flights via ShopBack partners to earn cashback on the LAX leg of the trip.

Miami wins on tax, weather, and open-air shopping. Miami Design District has grown into a genuine flagship district over the last decade, with Louis Vuitton, Dior, Loro Piana, Bottega Veneta, Hermes (nearby), Chanel, Cartier, and Rolex within a compact outdoor promenade. Bal Harbour Shops, a 20-minute drive away, remains the East Coast enclosed-luxury benchmark with heritage tenants and full-line Saks and Neiman Marcus. Sales tax runs about 7% (state 6% plus Miami-Dade 1%), roughly 2 points lower than LA and about 1.9 points lower than NYC. Plan the trip via ShopBack Travel Planner to compare Miami Beach against Bal Harbour and Design-District-adjacent hotel bases.

The tax delta on a $10,000 luxury purchase between Miami and Los Angeles is about $250; between Miami and NYC about $190. That alone rarely justifies a flight. Stacked with hotel and airfare arbitrage, and layered with ShopBack cashback on the travel legs, the total trip cost delta can widen enough to matter, particularly for a multi-item shopping trip in the $20,000-plus range.

Why intra-US luxury shopping still matters in 2026

The 2026 US luxury shopper has more options than ever, but the trade-offs between them have sharpened.

Airfare and hotel prices in the three cities are within striking distance of each other for a domestic traveler. A JFK-to-LAX round trip in shoulder season lands close to a JFK-to-MIA round trip once cashback and points layer in. Hotel rates in Beverly Hills, the Upper East Side, and Bal Harbour cluster in the same premium band on shoulder-season weekends. The material variables are sales tax on the actual luxury purchase, the flagship-boutique count within a walkable shopping district, and whether the client-advisor relationship in that boutique has any allocation for the reference you want.

The second effect is house strategy. European maisons treat each of these three cities as a distinct market with different assortment and different launch calendars. A capsule that lands on Rodeo Drive in early May might not touch Madison Avenue until September, and vice versa. A resort collection that shows up at Bal Harbour first might be picked over by the time it reaches SoHo. Serious buyers of small-batch drops know this and time trips accordingly.

The third effect is appointment access. Client-advisor appointment culture is now the dominant way to shop luxury in the US. Walk-in for a specific quota bag rarely produces the bag. Building a relationship with one client advisor at one boutique over multiple visits is the mechanism. Which city that boutique is in has a compounding effect on the trip planning for the next 24 months, not just the current trip.

Bottom line: the choice of city is downstream of the shopping list. Match the list to the city, then optimize the flights and hotels via a travel comparison tool.

New York City: the breadth capital

For most US luxury shoppers with a broad target list in 2026, New York City is the default trip.

The shopping geography. Three overlapping districts hold the majority of NYC luxury flagship real estate: Madison Avenue from roughly 60th to 79th Street, Fifth Avenue from 49th to 60th, and SoHo bounded roughly by Houston, Broadway, Canal, and West Broadway. A luxury shopping day that starts at Bergdorf Goodman on 58th and Fifth, walks north through Madison, and takes a car down to SoHo for the afternoon can hit 30-plus flagships without repeating a block. No other US city carries that density.

Sales tax. New York City sales tax on luxury goods is 8.875%, comprised of 4% New York State, 4.5% New York City local, and 0.375% Metropolitan Commuter Transportation District. Note that New York State exempts clothing and footwear priced under $110 per item from state sales tax, but NYC still charges its local portion, and luxury handbags, watches, jewelry, and ready-to-wear priced above the threshold are fully taxable at 8.875%. Verify the current rate at the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance since the local portion can change year to year.

Brand mix. NYC holds the strongest bench of full-line flagships in the US: Chanel (Madison at 63rd, SoHo, 57th Street), Hermes (Madison at 62nd, downtown, Wall Street), Louis Vuitton (Fifth at 57th, SoHo), Dior (Madison at 71st), Celine (Madison at 71st), Loewe (Madison at 71st), Bottega Veneta (SoHo, Fifth), Prada (Broadway SoHo, Madison at 70th, Fifth at 57th), Gucci (Fifth at 54th, SoHo, Madison), Loro Piana (Madison at 68th), Valentino (Madison at 69th), Saint Laurent (Madison at 71st), Balenciaga (SoHo, Madison), Brunello Cucinelli (Madison at 69th). Add the department-store anchors (Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdales) and the specialty jewelers on Fifth and Madison (Van Cleef & Arpels, Cartier, Bulgari, Tiffany, Harry Winston, Graff), and the flagship count clears 60 in a two-mile radius.

Watches. NYC leads the country on watch shopping. Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Vacheron Constantin, Richard Mille, A. Lange & Sohne, and Jaeger-LeCoultre all run brand boutiques between Madison and Fifth, plus long-standing multi-brand ADs (Cellini, Wempe, Tourneau successors). Allocation for hard-to-get steel sports references still requires an established purchase history, but NYC has more boutiques where a relationship can be built than any other US city.

Appointment culture. Book two to four weeks ahead during September ready-to-wear season, November through December holiday, and May resort. For Hermes leather goods, appointment requests through an existing client advisor produce meaningful outcomes; walk-in appointment requests via the general line rarely surface quota bags. Book earlier for the SoHo Hermes than the Madison Hermes if the trip is time-boxed, since SoHo runs a smaller book of appointments.

Where NYC struggles. Traffic between Madison and SoHo can add 30 to 45 minutes to a shopping day; weekday commuting hours make the same trip painful. Winter weather (November through March) makes the Madison Avenue walk uncomfortable in snow or rain. Uber and taxi surcharges compound. Parking a rental car near the flagships is not practical; plan the trip on public transit or on foot.

How ShopBack fits. Activate cashback via ShopBack before checkout at eligible online partners such as Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, and Bergdorf Goodman for online orders on ready-to-wear, contemporary designers, and gift categories. Compare hotels via ShopBack Travel Planner before booking your NYC luxury shopping trip to layer cashback on the flights and hotels that make up the bulk of trip cost.

Los Angeles: the contemporary and Rodeo Drive capital

Los Angeles is the pick for shoppers whose list leans contemporary designer, denim, celebrity-adjacent capsules, and the outdoor Rodeo-plus-Melrose walking day.

The shopping geography. Three anchor districts hold most of LA's luxury flagship real estate: Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills (three blocks between Wilshire and Santa Monica), Melrose Place and Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood, and Abbot Kinney in Venice for smaller boutique-scale contemporary. South Coast Plaza in Orange County, a 45-minute drive south, holds an outsized share of LA-metro luxury business and often has the largest single-store luxury boutiques in California by square footage. For a single-day plan, Rodeo Drive in the morning and Melrose in the afternoon is the standard shape.

Sales tax. Los Angeles sales tax runs about 9.5% in the City of LA and 9.5% in Beverly Hills, comprised of 7.25% California state (which includes a state-mandated local portion) plus city and district add-ons. Some LA County districts (Culver City, Santa Monica) run 10.25% or higher. Verify the current rate at the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration since local district rates change periodically. The city LA rate is the highest of the three cities in this comparison; a $10,000 handbag on Rodeo carries about $950 in tax versus $700 in Miami.

Brand mix. Rodeo Drive holds the flagship block: Chanel, Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Dior, Prada, Gucci, Celine, Bottega Veneta, Valentino, Saint Laurent, Loro Piana, Brunello Cucinelli, Van Cleef & Arpels, Cartier, and Rolex. The block is compact, walkable, and lined with valet parking; the boutiques are larger on average than their Madison Avenue counterparts because Rodeo lots were built for tourism traffic rather than pre-war Manhattan grid. Melrose Place adds The Row (LA-founded, LA-native), Chrome Hearts (Hollywood-native), Alaia, Isabel Marant, and Zimmermann, plus Chrome Hearts' famed Melrose flagship (an experience even if not a purchase). Melrose Avenue running west toward La Cienega adds Marc Jacobs, Rick Owens, and Comme des Garcons.

Watches. LA leads on Cartier, Piaget, and Rolex on Rodeo Drive, with growing independent watchmaker presence via Westime and other multi-brand boutiques in Beverly Hills. Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet are represented but with tighter allocations than NYC on hard-to-get steel sports references. For a first-time watch buyer looking to build a relationship, Beverly Hills is a competitive district but not as deep as Madison and Fifth.

Denim, contemporary, and LA-native. This is where LA meaningfully outperforms NYC and Miami. The Row (Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's LA-founded luxury label), Chrome Hearts, Rick Owens, Rag & Bone (LA denim heritage), Amiri, and Fear of God all treat LA as home market with LA-exclusive drops. A shopper focused on this cohort will find LA the deepest by a wide margin.

Where LA struggles. Traffic. A morning on Rodeo Drive and an afternoon on Melrose Place will burn 45 minutes each way in car time on a weekday. Parking is generally easier than NYC but a hotel base in West Hollywood or Beverly Hills is critical to compress the shopping day. Sales tax is the highest of the three cities. The full-line department-store presence is thinner than NYC (no Bergdorf Goodman; Saks and Neiman Marcus are strong but not the anchor of the district in the way they are on Fifth Avenue).

How ShopBack fits. Activate cashback via ShopBack before checkout at eligible online partners for contemporary and department-store online orders. Book flights via ShopBack partners to earn cashback on the LAX leg of the trip.

Miami: the tax, weather, and open-air capital

Miami is the pick for shoppers who want a compact three-day trip with lower sales tax, waterfront hotel base, and either the Design District or Bal Harbour Shops as the shopping anchor.

The shopping geography. Miami's luxury shopping concentrates in two anchor districts: Miami Design District (open-air flagship district in the Buena Vista neighborhood, about 15 minutes north of downtown Miami) and Bal Harbour Shops (enclosed luxury mall in Bal Harbour, about 20 minutes north up Collins Avenue). Aventura Mall further north adds mainstream luxury tenants and full-line Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, and Macy's. A luxury shopping trip typically anchors on one of the two primary districts and adds Aventura as an optional half-day.

Sales tax. Miami-Dade sales tax runs 7% (Florida state 6% plus Miami-Dade county 1%). Some resort-district and tourism-development overlays add small local surcharges but the retail luxury purchase tax remains close to 7% for most transactions. Florida does not run a state income tax, but that has no effect on retail sales tax; luxury buyers considering Miami purely on tax should verify the transaction rate at checkout since state and county tax law is subject to change. The tax delta on a $10,000 handbag versus NYC is about $190, versus LA about $250.

Miami Design District. The Design District has grown into a genuine flagship district over the last decade. Louis Vuitton, Dior, Christian Louboutin, Loro Piana, Bottega Veneta, Balenciaga, Prada, Fendi, Cartier, Rolex, Patek Philippe, Chanel, and Hermes (recently expanded to a full flagship) anchor an open-air pedestrian promenade with public art, dining, and hotel-adjacent parking. The district's outdoor format works because Miami weather permits it year-round; the same format would fail in a NYC winter. Independent watchmakers and jewelry maisons have moved in aggressively over the last five years.

Bal Harbour Shops. Bal Harbour Shops remains the East Coast enclosed-luxury benchmark. Heritage tenants include Chanel, Hermes, Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Prada, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Dior, Bulgari, Bottega Veneta, and full-line Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus wings. The mall's covered-open-air design (a Miami architectural signature) keeps foot traffic strong year-round. Bal Harbour and the Design District are close enough that a single trip typically covers both across two shopping days.

Watches. Miami has expanded quickly in the last five years. Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Vacheron Constantin, and independent watchmakers now hold Design District and Bal Harbour presence. Allocation for hard-to-get steel sports references at any US authorised dealer in 2026 still requires an established purchase history, but Miami is now a viable district for building that history alongside NYC and LA.

Weather. Miami's climate advantage is real for outdoor luxury shopping and repeat trip planning. November through April is peak weather; summer (June through October) brings heat and hurricane-season risk that can affect trip planning. Shoppers who prefer outdoor walking over indoor malls find the Design District a materially better experience than Rodeo Drive on a rainy November day, and infinitely better than Madison Avenue in February.

Where Miami struggles. Flagship count is lower than NYC or LA. Not every European maison runs a Miami boutique (Celine, Valentino, Saint Laurent, and Brunello Cucinelli have Bal Harbour presence but not always Design District, and some smaller maisons skip Miami entirely). Client-advisor appointment culture is less developed than NYC for allocation-heavy leather goods (though Bal Harbour Chanel and Hermes are competitive). Public transit is thin; a car (or rideshare budget) is required.

How ShopBack fits. Compare hotels via ShopBack Travel Planner before booking your Miami luxury shopping trip to see Miami Beach vs Bal Harbour vs Design-District-adjacent hotels in one view. Layer cashback on the flight and hotel legs of the trip.

Sales tax, side by side

City	Combined sales tax	State portion	Local portion	Notes
New York City	About 8.875%	4% NY State	4.5% NYC + 0.375% MCTD	Clothing under $110/item exempt from state portion; luxury handbags, watches, jewelry, ready-to-wear fully taxable
Los Angeles (City)	About 9.5%	7.25% CA (includes local mandatory)	Additional city/district add-ons	Some LA County districts (Santa Monica, Culver City) run 10.25% or higher
Beverly Hills	About 9.5%	7.25% CA	Beverly Hills city portion	Same rate band as City of LA
Miami (Miami-Dade)	About 7%	6% FL	1% Miami-Dade	Some resort-district overlays add small local surcharges

Rates as of publication. Verify at the state and county tax authority sites at draft time for any load-bearing math on a large purchase, since local district rates and city-specific surcharges do change.

Practical tax math on a $10,000 handbag.

• NYC: $887.50 tax, total $10,887.50
• LA / Beverly Hills: $950 tax, total $10,950
• Miami: $700 tax, total $10,700

Delta Miami vs LA: $250. Delta Miami vs NYC: $187.50. Delta NYC vs LA: $62.50.

On a $50,000 watch purchase.

• NYC: $4,437.50 tax, total $54,437.50
• LA / Beverly Hills: $4,750 tax, total $54,750
• Miami: $3,500 tax, total $53,500

Delta Miami vs LA: $1,250. Delta Miami vs NYC: $937.50.

At $50,000-plus purchase levels, the Miami tax advantage starts materially covering flight and hotel costs for a shopper flying in from another metro. Below $10,000, the tax delta alone rarely justifies the trip.

Which city wins on which shopping list

Match the shopping list to the city.

Shopping list target	Best city	Best district	Why
Broad European maison ready-to-wear	NYC	Madison Avenue + SoHo	Deepest flagship count in the US
Hard-to-get Hermes quota bag	NYC or LA	Madison Avenue or Rodeo Drive	Largest allocation US boutiques
Chanel classic flap variants	NYC	Madison at 63rd or SoHo	Deepest client-advisor bench
Contemporary designer (The Row, Amiri, Chrome Hearts)	LA	Melrose Place + Melrose Avenue	LA-native brand HQ
First watch relationship (Rolex, Patek Philippe)	NYC	Fifth Avenue + Madison	Most boutiques in one district
Growing watch relationship in a lower-tax metro	Miami	Design District	Rising watchmaker presence, 7% tax
Lower total trip cost on a $50k-plus purchase	Miami	Design District or Bal Harbour	Tax delta covers flight and hotel
Outdoor open-air shopping day	Miami or LA	Design District or Rodeo Drive	Weather permits year-round in Miami
Weekend trip with hotel-adjacent flagships	Miami	Bal Harbour Shops	Hotel-to-flagship walk is shortest
Combined shopping and cultural trip	NYC	Madison + museums + shows	Museum Mile plus Broadway
Family shopping trip with beach base	Miami	Bal Harbour + Miami Beach	Waterfront hotel base plus flagship walk
LA-exclusive small-batch drops	LA	Melrose Place	Only district for many labels
Full-line Bergdorf Goodman experience	NYC	Fifth Avenue at 58th	Only city with Bergdorf
Full-line Neiman Marcus flagship	LA or Miami	South Coast Plaza or Bal Harbour	Largest NM in the US

The tie-breaker between two viable cities is usually: (a) which client-advisor relationship the shopper already has (do not fracture across cities), (b) which hotel points program has the best redemption, and (c) which season minimizes weather friction.

---

Timing the trip: seasonality across the three cities

Luxury shopping trip timing matters more than most shoppers assume, because collection cycles, allocation batches, and weather all cluster.

September (ready-to-wear season). The strongest month for NYC and LA on new-season allocation. Fashion Week runs early September in NYC, and new-season assortment lands in boutiques through mid to late September. Weather is manageable in all three cities. Book two to four weeks ahead for client-advisor appointments.

October (resort preview). Miami weather turns favorable as summer humidity lifts. NYC weather cools without turning cold. LA remains warm. New allocations of pre-fall carry-over land in boutiques. Good month for a Miami trip since hotel prices remain shoulder-season and weather is peak.

November through December (holiday). Peak season for all three cities on both traffic and inventory. Boutiques are busiest; appointment lead time extends to four to six weeks. Miami weather is at its best; NYC gets holiday-window magic on Fifth Avenue; LA runs mild. Hotel prices spike in all three, particularly Miami over the December holidays.

January (post-holiday resort). NYC and Chicago weather friction peaks; Miami hotel prices normalize after New Year. Resort collection lands in boutiques. Best month for a compact Miami trip.

February (winter friction). Difficult month for NYC luxury walking; Miami and LA both viable. Fewer new-collection drops; allocation is thin.

March (pre-spring transition). Weather improves everywhere. Spring collection lands. Good month for NYC weekend trips as winter breaks.

April to May (spring and Coachella season). LA sees Coachella-adjacent capsule drops in April; Rodeo Drive traffic climbs. Miami transitions to summer humidity. NYC weather is at its best.

June through August (summer, hurricane season). Weather friction in Miami; hurricane risk from June through November. LA remains temperate. NYC humidity peaks. Miami hotel prices drop meaningfully but flight risk climbs. Book any Miami summer trip with flexible cancellation.

Book flights via ShopBack partners to earn cashback on the flight leg of the trip regardless of city or season.

Where ShopBack fits into a US luxury shopping trip

ShopBack cashback does not apply directly to European maison boutique purchases at Chanel, Hermes, Louis Vuitton, or their peers in the US, because those maisons do not sell through cashback affiliate programs. That is a category constraint, not a ShopBack limitation.

Where ShopBack does layer meaningfully on a US luxury shopping trip:

• Flights and hotels. The largest single line item on a US luxury shopping trip is usually the flight and hotel, not the purchase itself. Compare hotels via ShopBack Travel Planner before booking to layer cashback on those legs. On a two-night NYC trip with a business-class flight and Upper East Side hotel, the travel cashback often clears $50 to $200 in returned value, which offsets some of the sales tax differential vs a Miami alternative.
• Multi-brand online retailers. For pre-trip online purchases at Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, and Bergdorf Goodman, activate cashback via ShopBack before checkout to layer cashback on eligible online ready-to-wear, accessory, and beauty orders.
• Rental car and ride-share. For LA trips (where a rental car is functionally required) or Miami trips (where ride-share is heavily used), route bookings through the ShopBack partner where cashback applies.
• Travel gear and pre-trip essentials. Luggage, in-flight essentials, and travel accessories bought pre-trip through ShopBack partners layer additional cashback.

Two-part usage pattern. First, plan the trip via ShopBack Travel Planner and book flights plus hotels through the tracked cashback route. Second, for any online multi-brand or beauty purchase adjacent to the trip, start at shopback.com to see current cashback offers, click through to the partner, and complete checkout in one session so the click tracks. The two layers stack on the same trip.

Frequently asked questions

Which US city is best for luxury shopping in 2026?

For most US luxury shoppers with a broad target list in 2026, NYC is the default trip on breadth alone. Madison Avenue, SoHo, and Fifth Avenue together hold the deepest bench of maison flagships in the country. LA wins for contemporary, denim, and LA-exclusive capsule drops on Melrose and Rodeo Drive. Miami wins for lower tax, waterfront hotel base, and open-air Design District plus Bal Harbour Shops.

What is the sales tax on luxury shopping in NYC, LA, and Miami?

New York City is about 8.875% (4% state plus 4.5% NYC plus 0.375% MCTD). Los Angeles City is about 9.5% (7.25% California including local mandatory plus city add-ons); some LA County districts run 10.25% or higher. Miami-Dade is about 7% (6% Florida state plus 1% Miami-Dade). Verify current rates at the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration, and the Florida Department of Revenue before load-bearing math on any large purchase.

Is Miami truly tax-free for luxury shopping?

No. Miami is not tax-free. Florida has no state income tax, which many shoppers confuse with sales tax, but Miami-Dade retail sales tax on luxury goods runs about 7%. The advantage over NYC (about 8.875%) and LA (about 9.5%) is roughly 2 percentage points, not zero. The US does not run a national VAT and does not offer a federal tourist VAT refund of the kind available in the EU or Singapore.

Where can I find hard-to-get Hermes and Chanel bags in the US?

Allocation of hard-to-get Hermes leather goods and Chanel classic flap variants concentrates at the highest-volume US boutiques: Madison Avenue in NYC, Rodeo Drive in LA, and Bal Harbour Shops in Miami, followed by SoHo and South Coast Plaza. The mechanism is a client-advisor relationship built over 12 to 24 months at one boutique, not a walk-in request. Pick one city, build the relationship, and let allocation come through that channel.

Between Miami Design District and Bal Harbour Shops, which is the stronger luxury district?

Bal Harbour Shops is the East Coast enclosed-luxury benchmark with heritage tenants (Chanel, Hermes, Cartier, Van Cleef) plus full-line Saks and Neiman Marcus wings. The Design District is the newer open-air flagship district that has attracted many of the same maisons plus more contemporary and art-adjacent tenants (Louis Vuitton, Dior, Loro Piana, Bottega Veneta) around an outdoor promenade. Both cluster within a 20-minute drive; a Miami trip typically covers both across two shopping days.

When should I book a client-advisor appointment for luxury shopping?

Book two to four weeks ahead for European maisons in NYC and LA during peak seasons (September ready-to-wear, November-December holiday, May resort) and one to two weeks ahead for Miami year-round. For Hermes leather appointments, request through your existing client advisor rather than the general appointment line. Watch appointments should reference a specific model when contacting the boutique.

Do LA outlet malls carry current-season luxury?

No. Desert Hills Premium Outlets and Camarillo Premium Outlets both stock luxury outlet tenants (Prada, Gucci, Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, Balenciaga, Tod's) with prior-season inventory only. Current-season quota bags and newly launched watches are never at the outlets. Value is on classic season-agnostic pieces or last-season shoes and ready-to-wear.

Are there VAT refunds for international visitors to US luxury shopping?

No. The US does not run a national VAT and does not offer a federal tourist VAT refund. Some US states (Louisiana, Texas, and a handful of others) run limited state-level refund programs, but California, New York, and Florida do not. International visitors to NYC, LA, and Miami pay full retail plus sales tax with no refund at departure.

How do I earn cashback when planning a US luxury shopping trip?

Compare hotels via ShopBack Travel Planner before booking your NYC, LA, or Miami luxury shopping trip flights and hotels to layer travel cashback on the largest line items. For online purchases at multi-brand retailers such as Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, and Nordstrom, activate cashback via ShopBack before checkout so the click tracks. Verify current cashback rates on each merchant page at shopback.com before booking.

Compare NYC vs LA vs Miami for a first US luxury shopping trip.

For a first US luxury shopping trip in 2026, pick NYC if the target is European maison breadth, hard-to-get watch allocation, and building a client-advisor relationship over multiple visits. Pick LA if the target is contemporary designers, denim, and an outdoor Rodeo-plus-Melrose walking day. Pick Miami if the target is a compact three-day trip with lower sales tax, waterfront hotel base, and either Bal Harbour or the Design District as the anchor.
