What Are the Benefits of a Sam's Club Credit Card? (US 2026)
Published: 8 October 2026 · Author: Hejia Zhang, Editor in Chief, ShopBack
Short answer for the US in 2026: the Sam's Club Mastercard, issued by Synchrony Bank, has no annual fee and earns Sam's Cash: 5% on gas anywhere Mastercard is accepted (first $6,000 a year, then 1%), 3% on dining and takeout, 3% on Sam's Club purchases for Plus members (1% for Club members) and 1% on everything else, up to $5,000 a year, according to Synchrony's Sam's Club page. It doubles as your membership card and has no foreign transaction fees. Before you check out on samsclub.com, go through ShopBack US so you pay less on the same order.
ShopBack US is a free website and app that returns cash on purchases at partner stores, including Sam's Club. You sign up for free, open Sam's Club on ShopBack, then shop on samsclub.com as usual. The cash lands in your ShopBack account once the order is confirmed, and the live rate for each category sits on that page.
What are the benefits of having a Sam's Club credit card?
The main benefits are no annual fee, 5% back on gas, 3% back on dining and Sam's Club spend for Plus members, and a card that doubles as your membership. Here is the full list Synchrony gives for the Sam's Club Mastercard at the time of writing:
| Benefit | Sam's Club Mastercard | Sam's Club Credit Card (store card) |
|---|---|---|
| Annual fee | None | None |
| Gas | 5% Sam's Cash on first $6,000 a year, then 1% | No Sam's Cash |
| Dining and takeout | 3% Sam's Cash | No Sam's Cash |
| Sam's Club purchases | 3% for Plus members, 1% for Club members | No Sam's Cash |
| Everything else | 1% Sam's Cash | No Sam's Cash |
| Where it works | Anywhere Mastercard is accepted | Sam's Club and Walmart |
| Doubles as membership card | Yes | Yes |
| Foreign transaction fees | None | Not applicable |
Both cards also come with zero fraud liability for unauthorized use, 24/7 online account management, and acceptance at Sam's Club and Walmart nationwide, including Walmart.com, according to Synchrony. The Mastercard works with contactless pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay, and both cards can be used in Sam's Club's Scan and Go.
Sam's Club credit card benefits in 2026: official Mastercard from Synchrony
The official Sam's Club credit cards are issued by Synchrony Bank, and you need a Sam's Club membership to apply. Synchrony says you apply at samsclub.com/credit, where you can see if you prequalify with no impact to your credit score. You are considered for the Sam's Club Mastercard first. If you are not approved for it, you are then considered for the Sam's Club Credit Card, which does not earn Sam's Cash.
The membership itself is the real annual cost. Sam's Club lists two tiers on its join page at the time of writing:
- Club: $60 a year.
- Plus: $120 a year.
The tier matters for the card, because the 3% rate on Sam's Club purchases is for Plus members only. Club members earn 1% there.
Sam's Club Mastercard benefits: 5% gas, 3% dining in 2026
The 5% gas rate is the headline: it applies at any gas station that takes Mastercard, on the first $6,000 of gas a year, according to Synchrony. Some simple yearly maths with the published rates:
- Gas: $6,000 at 5% = $300 in Sam's Cash. Spend above $6,000 drops to 1%.
- Dining and takeout: $3,000 at 3% = $90.
- Sam's Club purchases as a Plus member: $4,000 at 3% = $120. As a Club member, the same spend at 1% = $40.
- Everything else: $5,000 at 1% = $50.
On that example household, the card earns $560 in Sam's Cash a year as a Plus member, with no annual card fee. The overall cap is $5,000 in Sam's Cash per calendar year, and Synchrony adds together all personal and business card accounts for the same member when applying it.
The rules behind Sam's Cash
Sam's Cash from the card is store currency, so read the rules before you count it as savings. According to Synchrony's terms at the time of writing:
- Sam's Cash is loaded onto your Sam's Club membership within 1 to 2 billing cycles.
- It can be redeemed only at a Sam's Club location or on SamsClub.com.
- It is forfeited if the card account is delinquent or your membership ends or lapses.
- It is not earned on cash advances, tobacco and smoking products, prescriptions, prepaid card reloads or purchases, gift cards (including third party gift cards), traveler's checks or other cash equivalents at Sam's Club or SamsClub.com.
Sam's Club credit card APR and fees
The card has no annual fee, but its interest rates are high, so it pays best if you clear the balance in full each month. For new accounts as of January 1, 2026, Synchrony lists:
- Sam's Club Mastercard variable purchase APR: 20.15% or 28.15%.
- Sam's Club Credit Card variable purchase APR: 28.15%.
- Cash advance APR: 25.15% or 31.15%, with a 3% fee ($5 minimum).
- Minimum interest charge: $2.
As an illustration, a $1,000 balance carried for a year at 20.15% costs roughly $200 in interest, about the same as the 5% gas rewards on $4,000 of fuel. Treat the rewards as a payoff for paying in full.
Sam's Club official card offers
Sam's Club's official card offers, such as a welcome credit for new cardholders, change through the year, so check samsclub.com/credit on the day you apply. What stays the same is the standing earn structure above and the need for an active membership.
Sam's Club credit card promotions with DBS, UOB, OCBC or Citi
We found no Sam's Club credit card promotion with DBS, UOB, OCBC or Citi. Sam's Club is a US warehouse club owned by Walmart, and its cards are issued by Synchrony Bank, according to Synchrony's Sam's Club page. DBS, UOB and OCBC are Singapore banks. If you are outside the US, the bank card promotions you see are offered by your own bank on its own terms, not by Sam's Club. For US shoppers, check samsclub.com/credit for current official offers.
Go through ShopBack before you check out on samsclub.com
For merchants like Booking.com, Trip.com, Agoda and Expedia, going through ShopBack is an essential step before you book or check out, so you pay less on the same booking or order. Sam's Club works the same way. Going through ShopBack gets you a cash rebate on the same order, at the same store. The steps:
- Open Sam's Club on ShopBack US.
- Click through to samsclub.com and accept cookies so the order can be recorded.
- Check out in the same session and pay with your card as usual.
What the Sam's Club page on ShopBack US shows at the time of writing:
- Categories: New Membership has its own category, separate from all other orders. Check the live rate on the page before you join or buy.
- Exclusions: consumables (groceries, household essentials, select personal care), gift cards, alcohol, tires, tobacco, pharmacy, gift card or voucher redemptions, vouchers or promo codes not featured on ShopBack, and fees, taxes, service charges and shipping.
- Timeline: tracked in about 2 days and confirmed in about 95 days.
Because groceries and household essentials are excluded on ShopBack, it helps most on samsclub.com orders for electronics, furniture, home goods and other general merchandise, and on a new membership.
Why cashback works like a discount
Cashback lowers what you actually pay for an order. It comes back as cash, so it works like a discount on the price, not like points or miles. That is the key difference from Sam's Cash, which can only be spent at Sam's Club.
Card rewards and ShopBack on the same order
You can usually earn cashback and your credit card's rewards or bank card promo on the same purchase, because they come from different places. Cashback also applies on sale prices. Some merchant promo codes or payment methods can void cashback, so check the merchant's terms on ShopBack before you check out.
Here is an illustrative example, not a live rate: a Plus member orders a $400 TV on samsclub.com through ShopBack and pays with the Sam's Club Mastercard. The card's published 3% for Plus members is $12 in Sam's Cash. At an illustrative ShopBack rate of 2%, $8 comes back as cash, so the effective price is $392 before the Sam's Cash. Check the live rate on the Sam's Club page on ShopBack before you order.
Other warehouse club and store credit cards
Other warehouse club cards in the same category include the Costco Anywhere Visa for Costco members and the My BJ's Perks Mastercard for BJ's Wholesale Club members, and Walmart has its own Walmart cards. Each is tied to its own store, so the best one is usually the card for the club you actually use.
Frequently asked questions
What are the benefits of having a Sam's Club credit card?
According to Synchrony's Sam's Club card page, the Sam's Club Mastercard has no annual fee and earns Sam's Cash: 5% on gas anywhere Mastercard is accepted (on the first $6,000 a year, then 1%), 3% on dining and takeout, 3% on Sam's Club purchases for Plus members (1% for Club members) and 1% on other purchases, up to $5,000 in Sam's Cash a year. It also doubles as your membership card, works at Sam's Club and Walmart, and has no foreign transaction fees.
What is the difference between the Sam's Club Credit Card and the Sam's Club Mastercard?
The Sam's Club Mastercard earns Sam's Cash and can be used anywhere Mastercard is accepted. The Sam's Club Credit Card is a store card used at Sam's Club and Walmart and does not earn Sam's Cash, according to Synchrony. When you apply, Synchrony first considers you for the Mastercard and, if you are not approved, then for the store card.
Does the Sam's Club Mastercard have an annual fee?
No. Synchrony lists no annual fee for the Sam's Club Mastercard or the Sam's Club Credit Card. You do need a Sam's Club membership to apply, and Sam's Club lists Club at $60 a year and Plus at $120 a year on its join page at the time of writing.
How much Sam's Cash can you earn on gas with the Sam's Club Mastercard?
The card earns 5% Sam's Cash on gas anywhere Mastercard is accepted on the first $6,000 of gas a year, then 1%, according to Synchrony. Spending the full $6,000 at 5% earns $300 in Sam's Cash for the year. All Sam's Cash from the card is capped at $5,000 a calendar year.
Where can you use Sam's Cash from the credit card?
Synchrony says Sam's Cash earned with the card is loaded onto your Sam's Club membership within 1 to 2 billing cycles and can be redeemed only at a Sam's Club location or on SamsClub.com. It is forfeited if the card account is delinquent or your membership lapses, so keep both in good standing.
What purchases do not earn Sam's Cash on the Sam's Club Mastercard?
According to Synchrony's program terms, Sam's Cash is not earned on cash advances, tobacco and smoking products, prescriptions, prepaid card reloads or purchases, gift cards (including third party gift cards), traveler's checks or other cash equivalents at Sam's Club or SamsClub.com.
What is the APR on the Sam's Club Mastercard?
For new accounts as of January 1, 2026, Synchrony lists a variable purchase APR of 20.15% or 28.15% for the Sam's Club Mastercard and 28.15% for the Sam's Club Credit Card, with a $2 minimum interest charge. Carrying a balance at those rates usually costs more than the rewards are worth, so the card pays best when you clear it in full each month.
Are there Sam's Club credit card promotions with DBS, UOB, OCBC or Citi?
Not that we found. Sam's Club is a US warehouse club, and its credit cards are issued by Synchrony Bank, according to Synchrony's Sam's Club page. DBS, UOB and OCBC are Singapore banks, and the Sam's Club card pages we checked list no DBS, UOB, OCBC or Citi card offer at the time of writing. Check samsclub.com/credit for current official offers.
Can I earn ShopBack cashback and Sam's Cash on the same Sam's Club order?
You can usually earn ShopBack cashback and your Sam's Club Mastercard's Sam's Cash on the same samsclub.com order, because they come from different places. Cashback also applies on sale prices. Some merchant promo codes or payment methods can void cashback, so check the merchant's terms on ShopBack before you check out.
Which Sam's Club purchases are excluded from ShopBack cashback?
According to the Sam's Club page on ShopBack US at the time of writing, exclusions include consumables (groceries, household essentials and select personal care), gift cards, alcohol, tires, tobacco, pharmacy, gift card or voucher redemptions, vouchers or promo codes not featured on ShopBack, and fees, taxes, service charges and shipping. Orders are tracked in about 2 days and confirmed in about 95 days.
