Is Agoda Legit for US Travelers in 2026? What to Check Before You Book
Is Agoda legit for US travelers in 2026? Agoda is part of Booking Holdings, lists over 5 million holiday properties, and publishes its refund, cancellation and Reservation Guarantee policies. Here is what those policies say, how to read reviews, and why you go through ShopBack US before you book.
Is Agoda Legit for US Travelers in 2026? What to Check Before You Book
For US travelers in 2026, Agoda is a mainstream hotel booking site run by a large listed travel group: it is part of Booking Holdings, the group behind Booking.com and Priceline, and it lists over 5 million holiday properties, 130,000+ flight routes and 300,000+ activities, according to Agoda. What decides a good Agoda booking is the room's cancellation terms, the currency you pay in, and going through ShopBack US before you book.
Agoda describes itself as a digital travel platform. Its footer names the operating company as Agoda Company Pte. Ltd. and says Agoda is part of Booking Holdings Inc. It has operated since 2005, and in October 2025 it said it was celebrating 20 years. Many US travelers come across it when they search for hotels in Asia, such as Tokyo, Bangkok, Bali or Singapore.
New to ShopBack? ShopBack is a shopping and cash back platform that started in 2014 and runs ShopBack US. You start at ShopBack, tap through to a store such as Agoda, book as normal, and cash comes back to you once the stay is confirmed. Join ShopBack US for free, then open the Agoda page on ShopBack before your next hotel booking.
Is Agoda legit for US travelers?
Agoda works for US travelers the way any large hotel booking site does: you search, pick a room, pay, and get a confirmation email with a booking ID. The questions worth asking are practical ones, and Agoda answers most of them in its own published policies.
Before you book a hotel on Booking.com or Agoda, go through ShopBack first. Then use this checklist on the booking page:
- Read the room's cancellation terms. Some rates are free to cancel until a date, and others are non-refundable. The exact due date is in your confirmation email.
- Set the currency to US dollars. Agoda shows prices in the currency you choose. If your card charges a foreign transaction fee on charges processed outside the US, a card with no foreign transaction fee removes that question.
- Check the total, not the nightly price. Look at taxes and fees before you pay, and compare the same total on another site.
- Book in your own name and keep the booking ID. You need it for any claim, change or refund.
- Make changes through Agoda, not the hotel. Agoda's Cancellation Policy says changes to dates, length of stay or cancellations must go through Agoda.
Is Agoda legit? Who runs it and how big it is
Agoda is operated by Agoda Company Pte. Ltd. and is part of Booking Holdings Inc., according to Agoda's own website. Booking Holdings also owns Booking.com, Priceline and KAYAK.
| What US travelers ask | What Agoda says |
|---|---|
| Who owns it | Booking Holdings Inc. |
| Operating company | Agoda Company Pte. Ltd. |
| Years in business | Since 2005; 20 years marked in 2025 |
| Size | Over 5 million holiday properties, 130,000+ flight routes and 300,000+ activities |
| Loyalty programme | AgodaVIP, with Gold, Platinum and Diamond tiers |
| If a hotel cannot honor a booking | Reservation Guarantee, with 24/7 Customer Service on the number in your confirmation email |

Is Agoda legit in 2026? What is new
The main change for 2026 travelers is AgodaVIP's Diamond tier, which Agoda announced in October 2025. Agoda says Diamond members get access to its lowest prices across hotels, flights and activities, priority customer support, early access to limited-time coupons and up to 25% off exclusive deals. The programme now covers flights and activities as well as hotels, according to Agoda.
AgodaVIP is Agoda's own official programme for saving on repeat bookings. Members get VIP deals, and the higher tiers can unlock free breakfast, room upgrades and flexible cancellation at select properties. You can check your status in the Agoda app or in your account. It costs nothing to join, so if you book Agoda more than once a year, sign in before you search.
Agoda reviews, complaints and refunds: what US travelers should know
Most complaints about any hotel booking site come from three situations: a non-refundable rate, a missed cancellation deadline, or a change arranged directly with the hotel. Agoda's published policies explain how each one is handled, so reading them before you book removes most surprises.
- Non-refundable rates. These are usually the cheapest, and they are cheap because you give up flexibility. If your plans could change, pay a little more for a free-cancellation rate.
- Missed deadlines. Agoda says the cancellation due date is in your confirmation email, is generally 14 days before arrival, and that a late cancellation usually costs one night unless the email says otherwise.
- No-shows. Agoda treats a no-show as a late cancellation, with a fee of at least one night per room unless the confirmation says otherwise.
- Changes with the hotel. Agoda says changes must go through Agoda. A change agreed only with the front desk may not show up in Agoda's system.
Agoda also offers an optional paid service called Smartflex at booking on eligible rooms, which extends the period in which you can cancel without a fee, according to its terms of use. Compare its cost with the price of a free-cancellation rate on the same room.
Agoda's official refund policy and customer service
According to Agoda's Refund Policy, you request a refund through the Agoda Help Center, and cancellations made before the due date in your confirmation are normally refunded 100% within 10 days. Agoda says it does not charge a processing fee for cancellations, unless the room's own policy says otherwise.
| Situation | What Agoda's policies say |
|---|---|
| How to request a refund | Through the Agoda Help Center |
| Cancel before the due date | Normally refunded 100% within 10 days of the request |
| Cancellation due date | In your confirmation email; generally 14 days before arrival |
| Cancel after the due date | Processed within 10 days, with a penalty of usually one night deducted |
| No-show | Treated as a late cancellation, at least one night per room |
| Hotel cannot honor the booking | 24/7 Customer Service finds a comparable alternative, or a full refund if you decline |
| Changing a booking | Through Agoda, not directly with the hotel |
Source: Agoda's Refund Policy, Cancellation Policy and Reservation Guarantee on agoda.com, checked 8 October 2026. The policy shown on your own booking and confirmation email is the one that applies.
How to reach customer service. Sign in to the Agoda account you booked with and open the Help Center on the website or app, with your booking ID ready. If you arrive and the hotel cannot honor a confirmed booking, Agoda's Reservation Guarantee says to call the 24/7 Customer Service number listed in your confirmation email straight away.
What Agoda's own site says about safe booking and prices
Searching agoda.com for safety and trust terms leads to its policies page, which sets out a Shop Safe Policy, a Reservation Guarantee and a Best Price Guarantee. The Shop Safe Policy says card details are taken through a secure (SSL) online form or by phone to Agoda's Support Center.
Agoda's Best Price Guarantee covers hotel bookings. If you book through Agoda and then find the same room cheaper for the same dates and conditions on a listed site, including Booking.com, Expedia.com, Hotels.com, Priceline, Trip.com and Airbnb, Agoda says it will either match the rate or credit the difference in AgodaCash, at its discretion. The main conditions, according to Agoda:
- Same property, dates, room and bed type, occupancy and benefits
- Same or more flexible cancellation terms, and the same currency
- The lower price must be the final rate including taxes and fees
- Claims must be in before 11:59 PM, property local time, the day before check-in
- Flights, activities and hotel plus flight bookings are not covered
How to read Agoda reviews on Trustpilot and the BBB
Treat Trustpilot and Better Business Bureau pages as a way to spot patterns, not as a score. Review sites mostly hear from people who had a problem, and a site as large as Agoda gets a steady stream of them.
When you read them, check three things:
- The date. Read the most recent months, because policies and apps change.
- The type of booking. A complaint about a flight or a package may not apply to a hotel-only booking.
- The cause. If the story is a non-refundable rate or a missed deadline, Agoda's policy table above tells you how to avoid it. If the story is about a specific property, read that property's guest reviews on Agoda before you book.
Agoda and ShopBack: the step before you book
Agoda is a store on ShopBack US, so going through ShopBack is an essential step before you book. In practice, ShopBack works like an automatic cash discount on your online order. Cashback lowers what you actually pay for an order. It comes back as cash, so it works like a discount on the price of the room, not like points or miles you have to redeem later.
How to do it:
- Open the Agoda page on ShopBack in the ShopBack app, on the website or with the browser extension.
- Tap through to Agoda and book in the same visit. Book on Agoda's own site, since ShopBack's Agoda terms say bookings on Agoda's partner sites are not eligible.
- Avoid ads, VPNs, ad blockers and other rewards extensions between ShopBack and checkout.
- Stay as booked. Cash is confirmed after the trip, and cancelled or changed bookings may not qualify, so read the Agoda page terms on ShopBack before you pay.
A worked example with an illustrative rate: on a $300 Agoda hotel booking at an illustrative 5%, $15 comes back, so the effective price is $285. The real rate is the one shown on the Agoda page on ShopBack, and it can differ by booking type, so check the live rate before you book.
Can I earn card rewards and ShopBack cash on the same Agoda booking?
You can usually earn your card's rewards and ShopBack cash on the same Agoda hotel booking, because they come from different places. Your card issuer pays card rewards on the purchase, and ShopBack pays on the eligible booking. Whether a particular promotion, coupon or member price still qualifies is set in the terms, so check the merchant's terms on the ShopBack Agoda page before you count on both.

Frequently asked questions
Is Agoda legit for US travelers?
Agoda is a mainstream hotel booking site that is part of Booking Holdings, the same group as Booking.com and Priceline, and it lists over 5 million holiday properties according to Agoda. US travelers book it like any other hotel site. Read the room's cancellation terms, check that the price is in US dollars, and go through ShopBack US before you book.
Who owns Agoda?
Agoda is run by Agoda Company Pte. Ltd. and is part of Booking Holdings Inc., according to Agoda's own site. Booking Holdings also owns Booking.com, Priceline and KAYAK. Agoda has operated since 2005 and marked 20 years in 2025.
What is Agoda's refund policy?
According to Agoda's Refund Policy, you request a refund through the Agoda Help Center. Cancellations made before the due date in your confirmation email are normally refunded 100% within 10 days, and Agoda says it does not charge a processing fee for cancellations. Late cancellations can carry a penalty, usually one night.
How do I contact Agoda customer service?
Start in the Agoda Help Center on the website or in the app, signed in to the account you booked with. If a confirmed reservation cannot be honored at check-in, Agoda's Reservation Guarantee says to call its 24/7 Customer Service on the number in your confirmation email.
What happens if the hotel cannot honor my Agoda booking?
Under Agoda's Reservation Guarantee, its support team looks for comparable alternative accommodation for your approval. If you do not accept an alternative, Agoda says it will offer a full refund of the price paid for the original booking.
Can I change my Agoda booking directly with the hotel?
Agoda's Cancellation Policy says changes must be made through Agoda, not directly with the hotel. That covers date changes, extending your stay, early check-out, late arrival and cancellations, so contact Agoda first.
Does Agoda have a price guarantee?
Agoda's Best Price Guarantee covers hotel bookings: if you find the same room for the same dates and conditions cheaper on a listed site such as Booking.com, Expedia.com or Hotels.com, Agoda says it will either match the rate or credit the difference in AgodaCash. Claims are due before 11:59 PM, property local time, the day before check-in.
How should I read Agoda reviews on Trustpilot or the BBB?
Read recent reviews for the type of booking you plan to make, and look for patterns rather than single stories. Many complaints about any booking site come down to a non-refundable rate, a missed cancellation deadline or a change made directly with the hotel, which Agoda's published policies explain.
What is AgodaVIP?
AgodaVIP is Agoda's free loyalty programme, with Gold, Platinum and Diamond tiers. According to Agoda, members get VIP deals, higher tiers can unlock free breakfast, room upgrades and flexible cancellation at select properties, and Diamond adds priority customer support and up to 25% off exclusive deals.
Can I get cashback on Agoda bookings in the US?
You can. Agoda has a page on ShopBack US. Open it, tap through to Agoda and book your hotel on Agoda's own site in the same visit. The live rate, eligible booking types and terms are shown on the Agoda page on ShopBack, so check them before you book.
