Amtrak Acela vs Northeast Regional vs Brightline 2026: US Rail

American intercity rail in 2026 is really three products in one country: the Amtrak Acela premium service, the Amtrak Northeast Regional, and Brightline in Florida. Everything else Amtrak runs is either a long-distance overnight product (Empire Builder, California Zephyr) or a state-supported commuter route. If you are choosing a train for a business trip or a family vacation this year, the choice reduces to these three. This guide walks the 2026 speed, price, seat class, and route math for each so you can pick the right ticket for the right trip.

The verdict

For US intercity rail travel in 2026, the winner depends entirely on where you are going and what you are paying for. Rail tickets are bought directly on amtrak.com or gobrightline.com; ShopBack comes in for the hotel you book around the trip, as a step before you pay.

Amtrak Acela is the pick for time-sensitive Northeast Corridor business travel between Boston, New York, and Washington, DC. Top speed is 150 mph on cleared segments, end-to-end Boston to DC runs 6 hours 38 minutes to 6 hours 50 minutes on published Amtrak weekday timetables, and the seat product is Business Class or First Class only with quiet-car options, at-seat food service in First, and Moynihan Train Hall (New York) plus Union Station (DC) lounge access on First Class fares. The NextGen Acela trainsets rolled out during 2024-2025 upgraded the ride, seat, and Wi-Fi meaningfully. Plan hotel bookings around the Amtrak stop via ShopBack Travel Planner to see cashback rates at partner hotel brands alongside your Acela itinerary.

Amtrak Northeast Regional wins for leisure Northeast Corridor travel and for anywhere along the Virginia branch (Richmond, Newport News, Norfolk, Roanoke) or the Springfield, Massachusetts branch via Hartford. Ticket prices routinely land at a third of the Acela fare on the same city pair, seats include Coach and Business, the network serves 53 stations across all branches per published Amtrak timetables, and the trip is only 30 to 60 minutes longer than Acela on most segments. Compare hotels via ShopBack Travel Planner before booking your Northeast Regional trip, and go through ShopBack before you pay for the hotel.

Brightline is the pick for Florida rail travel between Miami and Orlando, plus intermediate stations at Aventura, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, and West Palm Beach. End-to-end Miami to Orlando takes about 3 hours 34 minutes for the 235-mile route. Starting October 6, 2026, Brightline shifted to eight-car trains running every two hours between Miami and Orlando, with more short-haul frequencies between Miami and West Palm Beach. Premium cabin includes free food and drink, a dedicated station lounge, and 2 by 1 seating. Book flights and hotels via ShopBack partners around your Brightline trip to earn cashback on the parts of the itinerary Brightline itself does not cover.

If your trip is in the Northeast Corridor or Florida, one of these three is almost always the right answer. If it is anywhere else in the US, flying plus a rental car remains the default because intercity rail simply does not exist at competitive speed outside these two corridors in 2026.

Why US intercity rail in 2026 is really only three products

If you read a US rail forum, the network sounds vast. It is not. Amtrak runs 46 routes, but only two of them (Acela and Northeast Regional) hit the frequency, speed, and reliability profile that competes with flying or driving for intercity trips. Brightline is the third, in Florida.

Everything else Amtrak runs falls into one of two buckets. First, the long-distance overnight trains (Empire Builder, California Zephyr, Southwest Chief, Sunset Limited, Coast Starlight, Auto Train). These are experiential travel products at 40 to 50 mph average speeds, not competitive intercity transportation.

Second, the state-supported corridor routes (Pacific Surfliner in Southern California, Capitol Corridor and San Joaquins in Northern California, Cascades in the Pacific Northwest, Wolverine in Michigan, Empire Service in New York State, Downeaster in Maine, plus the Illinois, Missouri, and Piedmont services). Most run one to six daily round trips at 60 to 80 mph average speeds. They are meaningful for the specific city pairs they serve, but nowhere near the frequency or performance of the Northeast Corridor or Brightline in Florida.

The point matters because if you are choosing a train for a Northeast Corridor trip or a Florida trip in 2026, the choice is genuinely between the three products in this article. Outside those corridors, rail is a niche option, not the default.

The other side of the story is the rest-of-country picture. Brightline West (Las Vegas to Southern California) broke ground in 2024 and is targeting the late 2020s for revenue service. California High-Speed Rail continues to build the Central Valley segment. Texas Central and other proposed corridors remain in various stages of planning and financing. Until any of that goes live, the 2026 US rail decision is Acela, Northeast Regional, or Brightline.

Amtrak Acela: the Northeast Corridor speed play

Acela is the closest thing the US has to a genuine high-speed rail product in 2026.

The route. Boston South Station to Washington Union Station, with stops at Route 128, Providence, New London (select trains), New Haven, Stamford, New York Penn Station (accessed via Moynihan Train Hall), Metropark, Philadelphia 30th Street, Wilmington, Baltimore Penn Station, and BWI Airport. About 16 daily round trips on published Amtrak weekday timetables for 2026, with departures from Boston at 5:05 a.m., 5:55 a.m., 7:15 a.m., 9:10 a.m., 11:05 a.m., 1:05 p.m., and 1:55 p.m. among others.

The speed. Top speed 150 mph on cleared segments in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and New Jersey. End-to-end Boston to DC runs 6 hours 38 minutes to 6 hours 50 minutes on published timetables. The two key business-travel segments are Boston to New York (about 3 hours 20 minutes on express services) and New York to DC (about 2 hours 45 minutes to 2 hours 55 minutes). Actual door-to-door beats flying on both segments once you count the airport commute at both ends.

The seat. Business Class is the default fare (2 by 2 seating, tray table, at-seat power, Wi-Fi). First Class (2 by 1 seating, at-seat meal service, priority boarding, station lounge access at Moynihan, DC Union, and Philadelphia 30th Street) is roughly a $75 to $150 upcharge over Business depending on route and demand. The Quiet Car is available on every Acela trainset. NextGen Acela trainsets rolled out through 2024-2025 added at-seat power for every seat, improved Wi-Fi, and a redesigned cafe car.

The pricing. Boston to DC one-way Business Class Value fares start around $170 to $250 on off-peak departures and climb to $400+ during peak business travel windows. New York to DC Business Class Value fares typically land $130 to $220 one-way. First Class is another $75 to $150 on top. Saver fares (non-refundable, limited availability) can undercut those numbers by 20-30% if you book well in advance. Verify current pricing at amtrak.com since fares fluctuate daily.

When Acela wins. Business travel where 30 to 60 minutes of time savings and a fully productive at-seat workspace justify the fare premium. Same-day round trips New York to DC or New York to Boston where the fare difference is dwarfed by the day's meeting value. Trips where you specifically want Moynihan Train Hall in New York, Union Station in DC, or Philadelphia 30th Street rather than a suburban airport. Weekend leisure trips where the price gap over Northeast Regional is tolerable and the extra time savings matters.

Where Acela is not the pick. Trips where budget is a bigger constraint than time. Trips to Springfield, Massachusetts or Virginia (Acela does not serve these branches). Trips where you value stopping at Newark Airport station or Baltimore BWI over top-line speed (Acela skips most intermediate stops).

How ShopBack fits. For the hotel around your Acela trip, go through ShopBack before you pay at partner sites: Booking.com, Hotels.com, Expedia, or Marriott. Start at shopback.com to see cashback offers alongside your hotel comparison for Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, or DC.

Amtrak Northeast Regional: the corridor workhorse

Northeast Regional is the most-ridden Amtrak route in the country, and for good reason.

The route. Boston South Station, Springfield (Massachusetts), or New York City to Washington, DC, Newport News, Norfolk, Richmond, or Roanoke, Virginia. The network spans 53 stations across all branches on published Amtrak timetables. Key intermediate stops that Acela skips include Aberdeen (Maryland), Newark (Delaware), Trenton, Princeton Junction, New Brunswick, Metropark, and Newark Liberty International Airport station.

The speed. End-to-end Boston to DC runs about 7 hours 30 minutes to 8 hours, roughly 45 to 90 minutes longer than Acela on the same segment. New York to DC runs about 3 hours 15 minutes to 3 hours 30 minutes, roughly 30 minutes longer than Acela. Boston to New York runs about 4 hours to 4 hours 20 minutes. The Virginia branch adds another 3 to 6 hours south of DC depending on destination. Top speed is 125 mph on cleared segments.

The seat. Coach is the default fare (2 by 2 seating, ample legroom, tray table, at-seat power, Wi-Fi). Business Class (2 by 1 or 2 by 2 depending on trainset, wider seat, at-seat power, complimentary non-alcoholic beverage in some cars, station lounge access at some flagship stations) is a $30 to $50 upcharge on most trips. There is no First Class on Northeast Regional. The cafe car serves the length of the train.

The pricing. Boston to DC one-way Coach Value fares typically land $80 to $130 off-peak and $150 to $200 peak. New York to DC one-way Coach Value fares typically land $50 to $95. Saver fares (limited availability, non-refundable) can land in the $30 to $60 range on New York to DC or New York to Philadelphia if you book two to three weeks ahead. Business Class is a $30 to $50 upcharge. Verify current pricing at amtrak.com.

When Northeast Regional wins. Leisure travel where 30 to 60 minutes of extra travel time is fine for a fare that runs roughly one-third of Acela. Trips to Virginia (Richmond, Williamsburg, Newport News, Norfolk, Roanoke) or Springfield, Massachusetts. Trips where you need Newark Liberty International Airport station, Trenton, Princeton Junction, or another intermediate stop Acela skips. Family or group travel where the seat pitch and Coach cabin feel is fine and the fare gap over Acela pays for meals and hotel upgrades.

Where Northeast Regional is not the pick. Same-day business trips where 30 to 45 minutes of saved travel time and a First Class seat justify the Acela premium. Riders who specifically want quiet-car and priority boarding as standard (Acela includes both by default).

How ShopBack fits. Book flights via ShopBack partners for the outbound leg if you are flying into Boston or DC to start a Northeast Regional trip, then activate cashback via ShopBack before checkout at Hotels.com or Booking.com for the hotel nights along your route. Compare hotels via ShopBack Travel Planner before booking to see live cashback rates alongside price and location filters.

Brightline: the Florida coastal play

Brightline is the only privately-operated intercity passenger railroad in the US, and in 2026 it is the fastest-growing rail product in the country.

The route. MiamiCentral station to Orlando International Airport station, with intermediate stops at Aventura, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, and West Palm Beach. About 235 miles end to end. Miami to West Palm Beach has the most frequent service; West Palm Beach to Orlando is the higher-speed segment through central Florida.

The speed. Miami to Orlando end-to-end takes about 3 hours 34 minutes for the 235-mile route, an average of about 66 mph. The West Palm Beach to Orlando segment runs at up to 125 mph on the newly-built central Florida trackage; the Miami to West Palm Beach segment runs slower on shared freight corridor.

The 2026 schedule change. Starting October 6, 2026, Brightline shifted to running eight-car trainsets every two hours between Miami and Orlando. Daily Miami to Orlando round trips reduced from 15 to 10 under the new schedule, while short-haul frequencies between Miami and West Palm Beach increased to 18 each direction (including the Orlando trains as they pass through). The rationale published in Trains Magazine is capacity per train up, cost per seat down, and pricing recalibrated for both business and leisure demand. Verify current schedule at gobrightline.com since the network keeps iterating.

The seat. Smart is the default cabin (2 by 2 leather seating, tray table, at-seat power, free Wi-Fi). Premium is 2 by 1 leather seating with more legroom, complimentary food and beverage service including alcohol, priority boarding, and dedicated station lounge access at MiamiCentral, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, and Orlando. Premium is typically a $30 to $60 upcharge over Smart. Every Brightline station is new-build with a lounge concept, secure boarding gates, and TSA-style luggage screening.

The pricing. Miami to Orlando one-way Smart fares typically land $79 to $149 depending on advance purchase; Premium runs $30 to $60 higher. Miami to West Palm Beach Smart fares typically land $10 to $30 depending on time of day and advance purchase; Premium adds $10 to $25. Brightline offers a commuter monthly pass on the Miami to West Palm Beach segment; the Orlando segment is single-ticket only. Verify current pricing at gobrightline.com.

When Brightline wins. Miami to Orlando trips where you avoid gas plus tolls plus airport parking (roughly $200 to $400 for a family of four on the drive equivalent). Same-day round trips Miami to Fort Lauderdale or Miami to West Palm Beach where downtown-to-downtown beats driving I-95. Theme-park families who want the Miami leg by rail and pick up a rental car or Mears Connect at MCO for the Disney or Universal side of the trip. Airport-to-city transfers at MCO if your final destination is downtown Orlando or the Convention Center corridor.

Where Brightline is not the pick. Trips where the final destination is not near an existing Brightline station (Tampa expansion has been announced but timeline is uncertain, with industry analysts flagging financial pressure on Brightline as a company in mid-2026; verify latest at gobrightline.com). Overnight trips (Brightline runs daytime only). Trips where three hours 34 minutes end-to-end is meaningfully slower than driving with two adults switching driving duties.

Six travel archetypes, mapped to a train

Match your trip to the closest archetype below.

Traveller archetype	Best pick	Why
Consultant flying weekly Boston to DC	Acela First Class	Time-sensitive, expense-account, needs Moynihan lounge and productive seat
Family of four New York to DC weekend	Northeast Regional Coach	Fare gap over Acela pays for a hotel upgrade or two meals
DC to Norfolk weekend for the Naval Museum	Northeast Regional Coach	Acela does not serve the Virginia branch at all
Miami family visiting Disney World	Brightline Premium + Mears Connect from MCO	Beats driving on cost and stress once you count fuel, tolls, parking
Fort Lauderdale to West Palm Beach same-day meeting	Brightline Smart	Downtown to downtown in about 40 minutes, beats I-95 traffic
International visitor doing a corridor "greatest hits" week	Acela First one-way + Northeast Regional back	Sample both, then use the fare gap on the return leg for hotel nights

The single biggest mistake first-time rail travellers make is defaulting to Acela on every Northeast Corridor trip. On leisure trips where 30 to 45 minutes does not change your day, Northeast Regional Coach or Business is almost always the better trade.

---

The productive-work equation

For anyone travelling on a business ticket, the real Acela versus flight question is not headline time; it is productive work time.

On a 3-hour flight, you get roughly 90 minutes of usable work time once you count boarding, taxi, ascent, and descent. Wi-Fi on domestic flights is intermittent and often paid. Seat pitch is 30 to 32 inches, which is not a real workspace. You are working around a seatmate.

On a 3-hour Acela, you get roughly 2 hours 40 minutes of usable work time once you count boarding and a coffee run to the cafe. Wi-Fi is free and improving on the NextGen trainsets. Seat pitch on Business is roughly 40 inches; First Class is more. At-seat power is standard. You are working at a real table.

For a $300 fare delta between Acela First and an equivalent flight plus taxi at both ends, the extra 90 minutes of productive work time is worth it for many roles. That is why the corridor keeps its Business Class ridership even as fares climb.

The equivalent Brightline comparison in Florida is against the drive rather than the flight. Miami to Orlando driving is 3 hours 30 minutes to 4 hours 30 minutes depending on traffic, with zero usable work time. Brightline Premium is 3 hours 34 minutes with meal service and full work time. For solo business travellers between Miami and Orlando, Brightline Premium versus driving is not close.

---

Booking discipline that saves money

Regardless of which train you pick, three habits move the price meaningfully.

Book two to three weeks ahead. Amtrak fares climb on a demand curve; the same New York to DC seat is often $59 at three weeks out and $145 at three days out. Brightline runs a similar curve, though the curve is shallower.

Watch for Saver fares. Amtrak's Saver bucket is limited availability, non-refundable, and often 30-50% below Value. Set an alert on Amtrak.com for the trip you want and pounce when Saver opens.

Check the reverse direction. Return-leg fares are often significantly cheaper than outbound on the same corridor, and stitching two one-ways can beat a round-trip on total price.

Time-shift within the day. The 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. Acelas are typically 20-40% cheaper than the 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. flights. Northeast Regional off-peak (weekdays midday or evening after 7 p.m.) is often 30% below morning peak.

How ShopBack fits into the booking window. Compare hotels via ShopBack Travel Planner before booking your rail-trip hotel. Go through ShopBack before you pay at Booking.com, Hotels.com, Expedia, Marriott, or Priceline, and check the live Cashback rate on each store's ShopBack page before you complete the booking.

When rail is not the answer in 2026

Rail is the right pick in the Northeast Corridor and in Florida on the Brightline route. It is not the right pick elsewhere in the US in 2026.

Long-distance Amtrak trains (Empire Builder, California Zephyr, Southwest Chief, Coast Starlight) are experiential travel products, not competitive intercity transport. Two to three days between city pairs at 40 to 50 mph average speeds is a genuinely different kind of trip: sleeper-car rooms with full meal service, scenic Superliner cars with panoramic windows, and a slower pace that appeals to a specific traveller. Book those trips because you want the journey, not because you need to be somewhere fast.

State-supported corridors (Pacific Surfliner Los Angeles to San Diego, Cascades Seattle to Portland, Capitol Corridor Sacramento to San Jose, Downeaster Boston to Brunswick, Empire Service New York to Buffalo, Wolverine Chicago to Detroit, Piedmont Charlotte to Raleigh) are meaningful for the specific city pairs they serve at 60 to 80 mph average speeds and one to six daily round trips. If your city pair is on one of those routes, check the schedule; it may fit. Outside those pairs, flying plus a rental car remains the default US intercity mode.

Brightline West (Las Vegas to Rancho Cucamonga) is under construction and not in service in 2026. California High-Speed Rail is under construction on the Central Valley segment and not in service. Various proposed corridors (Texas Central, Dallas to Houston high-speed, Cascadia high-speed) remain in planning. Until any of those go live, the 2026 US rail decision reduces to Acela, Northeast Regional, or Brightline.

For everything else, book flights via ShopBack partners and activate cashback via ShopBack before checkout at Booking.com or Expedia for the hotel-and-rental-car leg of the trip.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Amtrak Acela and Northeast Regional?

Acela is Amtrak's premium express service on the Northeast Corridor between Boston, New York, and Washington, DC, with top speeds of 150 mph, fewer stops, and only Business Class and First Class seating. Northeast Regional runs the same corridor plus branches into Virginia and Springfield, Massachusetts, stops at more than 50 stations across all branches, and offers Coach, Business, and cafe car service at roughly a third of the Acela fare on the same city pair. Choose Acela for time-sensitive Boston to DC business trips; choose Northeast Regional for leisure travel.

How long does Brightline take from Miami to Orlando in 2026?

About 3 hours and 34 minutes end to end for the 235-mile Miami to Orlando route, with intermediate stops at Aventura, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, and West Palm Beach. Starting October 6, 2026 Brightline shifted to running eight-car trains every two hours between Miami and Orlando, reducing daily Orlando round trips from 15 to 10 while increasing frequency between Miami and West Palm Beach to 18 each direction (Trains Magazine).

Which is faster, Amtrak Acela or a flight between Boston and DC?

Door to door, Acela is often faster or on par with flying for Boston to DC when you count getting to Logan or Reagan, security, boarding, taxi, and the ride from BWI or DCA into the city. Acela runs city centre to city centre in 6 hours 38 minutes to 6 hours 50 minutes end to end. For the Boston to New York (about 3 hours 20 minutes) or New York to DC (under 3 hours) segments, Acela often beats flying on total travel time and always beats it on productive work time on the train.

When should I pick Northeast Regional over Acela?

Pick Northeast Regional when the fare gap matters more than time savings, when you need a station Acela does not serve (Newark Airport, Trenton, Wilmington on many trains, Baltimore BWI, the Virginia branch, or the Springfield line), or when you want Coach seating with cafe car access rather than assigned Business or First. On the New York to DC segment specifically, Northeast Regional runs about 30 to 45 minutes longer than Acela at roughly one third the price, which is the right trade for most leisure travellers.

Is Brightline more comfortable than Amtrak?

Brightline's Premium cabin includes complimentary food and beverage, priority boarding, a dedicated station lounge at each stop, and 2 by 1 leather seating with more legroom than Amtrak Coach. Amtrak Acela First Class also includes at-seat meal service and lounge access at flagship stations. On raw seat comfort Brightline Premium and Acela First are close; Brightline wins on station experience since every Brightline station is new-build, while Amtrak stations range from excellent (Moynihan Train Hall in New York) to utilitarian.

Does Brightline connect Miami to Disney World?

Not directly. Brightline's Orlando terminus is at Orlando International Airport (MCO), which is roughly a 20 to 25 minute rideshare or Mears Connect shuttle to Walt Disney World. That said, Brightline plus rideshare from MCO is often faster and cheaper than driving from Miami, particularly for families of two to four who avoid $200 to $400 in gas, tolls, and airport parking on a Miami to Orlando theme-park trip. Verify current Brightline schedules at gobrightline.com.

Can I earn cashback when booking Amtrak or Brightline?

Rail tickets are typically bought directly on amtrak.com or gobrightline.com. For the hotel around your rail trip, compare hotels via ShopBack Travel Planner, then go through ShopBack before you pay at Booking.com, Hotels.com, Priceline, Expedia, or Marriott. Check the live Cashback rate on each store's ShopBack page before you book.

Are Amtrak Acela tickets refundable?

Amtrak's Flexible fare is fully refundable up to departure. Value fare tickets are refundable to original form of payment with a 25% cancellation fee, or refundable in full as an Amtrak eVoucher. Saver fares are non-refundable but can typically be exchanged for an eVoucher. First Class on Acela includes flexibility comparable to a Flexible ticket. Always verify current cancellation terms at amtrak.com before booking, since fare rules do change.

Where does Northeast Regional go that Acela does not?

Northeast Regional serves the Virginia branch (Richmond, Williamsburg, Newport News, Norfolk, Roanoke) plus the Springfield, Massachusetts branch via Hartford, plus intermediate corridor stations that most Acela services skip: Aberdeen, Newark (Delaware), Trenton, Princeton Junction, New Brunswick, Metropark, and Newark Liberty International Airport station. That intermediate coverage is why Northeast Regional carries substantially more annual passengers than Acela.

Should families pick rail over flying or driving in 2026?

For Boston to New York, New York to Washington, and Miami to Orlando, rail is often the strongest family option in 2026: no security theatre, no rental car at destination, kids can walk around, luggage is not a per-piece fee, and city-centre arrival beats airport-and-taxi at both ends. The tradeoff is total travel time (rail is slower than flying for long hops) and geography (rail only makes sense inside these corridors). For families outside these corridors, flying plus a rental car remains the default. Plan your US trip with ShopBack Travel Planner to compare rail-plus-hotel against fly-plus-hotel on total cost.

Which rail service offers best value for a weekend trip on BOS-DC, NYC-DC, and MIA-ORL in 2026?

For weekend BOS-DC, Northeast Regional wins on value: about $160 to $260 for an off-peak Coach round trip versus $340 to $500 or more on Acela Business. For weekend NYC-DC, Acela is the sweet spot when time matters (roughly 2 hours 50 minutes at $130 to $220 one-way) but Northeast Regional at $50 to $95 one-way covers most leisure use cases. For MIA-ORL, Brightline Smart at $79 to $149 one-way is the default because there is no cheaper alternative on the corridor and no security-line overhead. For the hotel, go through ShopBack before you pay at Booking.com or Marriott.

Key takeaways

• US intercity rail in 2026 reduces to three real products: Amtrak Acela, Amtrak Northeast Regional, and Brightline. Everything else Amtrak runs is either a long-distance overnight experience or a state-supported commuter route with limited frequency.
• Acela wins for time-sensitive Northeast Corridor business travel with 150 mph top speed, Business and First Class seating, Moynihan and DC Union lounges, and end-to-end Boston to DC in 6 hours 38 minutes to 6 hours 50 minutes.
• Northeast Regional wins for leisure Northeast Corridor travel and for anywhere along the Virginia branch or the Springfield, Massachusetts branch, at roughly one-third of the Acela fare with about 30 to 60 more minutes of travel time on the same city pair.
• Brightline wins for Florida coastal travel, with Miami to Orlando in 3 hours 34 minutes for the 235-mile route, Premium cabin food and drink included, and new-build stations at every stop.
• Starting October 6, 2026 Brightline shifted to eight-car trains every two hours on Miami to Orlando, with more frequent short-haul service on Miami to West Palm Beach.
• Door-to-door, Acela often beats flying on Northeast Corridor segments once you count airport commute, security, and boarding time, especially on the productive-work time metric.
• Miami to Orlando driving costs a family of four roughly $200 to $400 once fuel, tolls, and airport parking are counted; Brightline Premium often lands close to that number with far less stress.
• Book two to three weeks ahead, watch for Amtrak Saver fares, and time-shift within the day to move fares 20 to 40% on Acela and Brightline.
• Rail tickets are bought on amtrak.com or gobrightline.com; for the hotel around your rail trip, go through ShopBack before you pay at Booking.com, Hotels.com, Expedia, Priceline, or Marriott.
• Rail is not the answer everywhere in the US: for anywhere outside the Northeast Corridor and Brightline's Florida footprint, flying plus rental car remains the default 2026 intercity mode.
