Are Costco Travel Vacation Packages a Good Deal? (US 2026)
Costco Travel vacation packages can be a good deal for US members, especially Executive members who earn Costco's 2% Reward, but only if the package beats the same trip priced elsewhere once membership and ShopBack are counted.
Are Costco Travel Vacation Packages a Good Deal? (US 2026)
For US Costco members in 2026, Costco Travel vacation packages are often a good deal, and more often for Executive members. According to Costco, Costco Travel sells only to members and offers member-only values on vacation packages, hotels, cruises and rental cars. Executive members, who pay $130 a year, also earn a 2% Reward on qualifying Costco Travel purchases. The package is only a good deal if it beats the same trip priced elsewhere, so compare the total before you book.
New to ShopBack? ShopBack US is a free website and app that gives you Cashback when you shop or book at partner stores such as Expedia and Booking.com. Open ShopBack, tap the store, then book as usual. Join ShopBack US for free.
Sources. Costco's join page, Executive Rewards terms and Member Privileges and Conditions, plus the Costco, Expedia and Booking.com pages on ShopBack US, all read in October 2026. We do not quote package prices, because they change daily; use the comparison method below on the day you book.
The verdict
A Costco Travel package is a good deal when its total, minus any 2% Reward you will earn, is lower than the same trip built elsewhere minus the cash ShopBack returns. That is the only test that matters. Costco says its travel buyers select the offerings "just like items in a Costco warehouse", and it uses its buying power to negotiate value for members. That often shows up as a competitive package price. It does not mean every package is the lowest price on the market.
Plan the trip, then book through ShopBack. Pick your dates and resort, price the Costco Travel package, price the same flights and hotel on a booking site such as Expedia, and then compare the effective prices. Whichever wins, you know you paid less.
| Who you are | Is a Costco package likely good value? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Executive member who travels once or twice a year | Often yes | The 2% Reward lowers the effective price of qualifying Costco Travel purchases |
| Gold Star member | Sometimes | You get the member-only package prices but no 2% Reward |
| Not a member yet | Only if the trip is large | You need a membership first, from $65 a year plus tax |
| Flight-only traveler | Usually not | Costco's listed travel values are packages, hotels, cruises and rental cars |
Are Costco Travel vacation packages a good deal in 2026?
Costco Travel vacation packages in 2026 can be good value, but you need to check three things: the package price, the value of the 2% Reward, and what the same trip costs elsewhere. Here is what Costco itself says about Costco Travel, at the time of writing:
- Costco Travel sells exclusively to Costco members.
- Costco uses its buying authority to negotiate value in the marketplace and pass the savings on to members.
- Every membership includes access to Costco Travel and its member-only values on vacation packages, hotels, cruises and rental cars.
- Executive members get Executive benefits on select Costco Travel packages.
- Executive members earn an annual 2% Reward, up to $1,250, on qualifying Costco, Costco.com and Costco Travel purchases.
So the honest answer to "is it a good deal" is that it depends on the package. For a resort trip where the package bundles flights, hotel and sometimes transfers, Costco Travel is worth pricing every time. For a trip where you only need a flight, or you want a hotel Costco does not offer, other booking sites will usually be your starting point.
What makes a Costco package good value
- It bundles what you would buy anyway. A package with flights, hotel and transfers you need is worth more than one padded with items you would skip.
- The 2% Reward applies. For Executive members, a $4,000 qualifying Costco Travel package earns about $80 back in the annual Reward, according to Costco's 2% rate.
- The terms suit you. Read the cancellation and change rules on the package before you pay. They vary by supplier.
What can make it poor value
- You need a membership just for this trip. Paying $65 to $130 a year only to book one trip eats into any saving.
- The hotel or flight times are not what you want. A cheaper package with a worse flight is not always a saving.
- The same trip is cheaper elsewhere. Package prices on booking sites move daily, so check before you assume.
Can you get cheaper flights through Costco Travel?
Usually not as standalone fares. When Costco describes Costco Travel's member-only values, it lists vacation packages, hotels, cruises and rental cars, and flights are not on that list. If you only need a flight, the realistic places to look are the airlines' own sites and booking sites that sell flights on their own.
Where Costco Travel can help with flights is inside a package. If the package bundles your flight with a hotel at a price lower than buying both separately, the flight is effectively cheaper. Compare the package total with the cost of the same flight plus the same hotel booked separately.
Costco flights in 2026: a simple check
- Find the flight you want on an airline site or booking site, and note the total with taxes and bag fees.
- Find the hotel you want for the same dates, and note the total with taxes and resort fees.
- Add the two. That is your "separate" price.
- Price the same flight and hotel as a Costco Travel package.
- Subtract the 2% Reward from the Costco price if you are an Executive member. Subtract the cash ShopBack returns from the separate price if you book those through ShopBack.
- The lower effective price wins.

Costco official membership benefits for travel
Costco's official membership benefits for travel come in two tiers: every member gets access to Costco Travel, and Executive members also earn the 2% Reward and get Executive benefits on select packages. According to Costco's join page, at the time of writing:
| Membership | Annual fee | Travel benefits |
|---|---|---|
| Gold Star | $65 plus applicable sales tax | Access to Costco Travel member-only values on vacation packages, hotels, cruises and rental cars |
| Executive | $130 plus applicable sales tax | Everything above, plus the annual 2% Reward on qualifying Costco Travel purchases and Executive benefits on select Costco Travel packages |
Each membership includes one free Affiliate Card, according to Costco. The membership fee covers one 12-month period from the date the Primary Cardholder enrolls.
How the 2% Reward works on travel
According to Costco's Executive Rewards terms:
- The Reward is about 2% of pre-tax qualifying purchases, less refunds.
- Qualifying purchases include those made directly from Costco Travel, once travel is completed.
- The Reward is capped at $1,250 for any 12-month period.
- It is issued about three months before your renewal date, in the Renewal Statement.
- You must be a current, paid Executive member at the end of the membership year.
- For travel, the Reward is not calculated on surcharges, gratuities, trip protection, travel bought through a third party, upgrades, rental car equipment, resort charges or port charges.
That last point matters for packages. The Reward applies to the qualifying part of the package, not to every fee you pay on the trip.
Is the Costco membership worth it for travel in 2026?
For travel alone, the Executive upgrade pays for itself once your qualifying Costco spending passes about $3,250 a year. The upgrade costs $65 more than Gold Star, and 2% of $3,250 is $65. Below that, Gold Star is cheaper.
| Qualifying Costco and Costco Travel spending per year | 2% Reward | Executive upgrade worth it? |
|---|---|---|
| $2,000 | $40 | No, you pay $65 to earn $40 |
| $3,250 | $65 | Breaks even |
| $5,000 | $100 | Yes, $35 ahead |
| $8,000 | $160 | Yes, $95 ahead |
Those numbers combine your warehouse, Costco.com and Costco Travel spending, because the Reward counts all three. A family that already spends a few thousand dollars a year at Costco and books one package will usually come out ahead on Executive. Costco says the Reward is not guaranteed to equal or exceed the upgrade fee, so run your own numbers.
If you are not a member yet, the membership fee is part of the trip's cost. Joining for a $65 Gold Star membership to save $50 on a package does not work out. Joining because you will shop at Costco all year, and the package is one more reason, is different.
How ShopBack fits into booking a vacation
ShopBack is the step before you pay: plan the trip, then book through ShopBack. ShopBack is a post-purchase discount. Go through it before you pay and the effective price drops. Cashback lowers what you actually pay for an order. It comes back as cash, so it works like a discount on the price, not like points or miles.
There are two ways ShopBack US fits a Costco Travel decision.
1. Joining Costco through ShopBack
At the time of writing, the Costco page on ShopBack US is for new Costco membership sign-ups. If you are about to join Costco for the first time, start the new membership from the ShopBack Costco page and check the live rate there.
2. Booking the alternative through ShopBack
If the same trip is cheaper on a booking site, book it through ShopBack. Open ShopBack US, tap the site, and finish the booking.
Before you pick a site, the ShopBack Travel Planner lets you compare flights and hotels across several booking sites in one search.
Costco package vs booking the same trip elsewhere: a worked example
Compare effective prices, not sticker prices. Here is how the maths works for an Executive member choosing between a Costco Travel package and the same trip on Expedia. The prices are made up to show the method.
| Costco Travel package | Same trip on Expedia through ShopBack | |
|---|---|---|
| Package total (flights and 5 nights, two people) | $4,000 | $4,050 |
| Costco 2% Reward (Executive members) | minus $80 | n/a |
| ShopBack Cashback | n/a | minus the Cashback, at the rate shown on the Expedia ShopBack page |
| Effective price | $3,920 | $4,050 minus the Cashback |
In this example the Expedia total starts $130 higher, so the Cashback shown on the Expedia ShopBack page decides how close the two get. If they end up near level, the deciding factor becomes flight times, room type and cancellation terms. Change the inputs and the answer changes. A Gold Star member gets no 2% Reward, so for them the Costco package starts only $50 lower.
Note that the Costco 2% Reward arrives once a year with your renewal, while ShopBack's Cashback usually comes back some time after your booking or stay is confirmed. Both lower what you pay. They just arrive at different times.
Paying with a card: what usually applies
Your credit card's own rewards are paid by the card issuer, so they usually still apply whichever site you book on. Some travel cards also include trip protection, which can be worth comparing with the trip protection a package offers. Read your card's terms for what is covered.
Costco also offers its own co-branded card, the Costco Anywhere Visa Card by Citi, according to Costco's join page. Whether a card's rewards apply in a particular way to a particular booking is set by the card's terms, so check them before you rely on them.
Where else US travelers compare vacation packages
Many US travelers who price a Costco Travel package also check Expedia, Trip.com and Booking.com for the same trip. Expedia and Trip.com sell flight and hotel bundles, and Booking.com is a common place to price the hotel on its own.
For resort destinations, our breakdowns of Expedia Hawaii vacation packages and Cancun all-inclusive vs Vrbo for families show how a package compares with building the trip yourself.
Tip. Check the same flight and hotel package on Expedia through ShopBack before you book the Costco Travel version, so you know which one is cheaper.
Frequently asked questions
Are Costco Travel vacation packages a good deal?
Often, yes, for US Costco members, and more often for Executive members. Costco says Costco Travel sells only to members and offers member-only values on vacation packages, hotels, cruises and rental cars, and Executive members earn a 2% Reward on qualifying Costco Travel purchases once travel is completed. It is a good deal only when the package beats the same trip priced elsewhere, so compare the total before you book.
Can you get cheaper flights through Costco Travel?
Usually not as standalone fares. Costco describes Costco Travel's member values as vacation packages, hotels, cruises and rental cars, and flights are not on that list. Where Costco Travel can help is a package that bundles your flight with the hotel. For a flight on its own, compare airlines and booking sites directly.
Do you need a Costco membership to book Costco Travel?
Yes. According to Costco, Costco Travel sells exclusively to Costco members. A Gold Star membership is $65 a year and an Executive membership is $130 a year, plus applicable sales tax, at the time of writing.
Is the Costco Executive membership worth it for travel?
It pays for itself once your qualifying Costco, Costco.com and Costco Travel spending passes about $3,250 a year, because the upgrade costs $65 and the Reward is about 2%. Costco caps the Reward at $1,250 in any 12-month period and excludes travel items such as surcharges, gratuities, trip protection, upgrades, resort charges and port charges.
What Costco membership benefits apply to travel?
According to Costco, every membership gives access to Costco Travel's member-only values on vacation packages, hotels, cruises and rental cars. Executive members also get Executive benefits on select Costco Travel packages and earn the annual 2% Reward on qualifying Costco Travel purchases.
Can I use ShopBack on a Costco Travel booking?
At the time of writing, the Costco page on ShopBack US is for new Costco membership sign-ups, so if you are joining Costco, start the new membership from the ShopBack Costco page. If you book the trip on another site such as Expedia or Booking.com, go through ShopBack before you pay.
How do I compare a Costco vacation package with Expedia?
Price the same flights, hotel, room type, dates and transfers on both, then compare the effective price. On Costco Travel that is the package total minus the 2% Reward if you are an Executive member. On Expedia it is the total minus the cash ShopBack returns when you go through ShopBack before you pay.
When does Costco pay the 2% Reward on Costco Travel?
According to Costco, qualifying Costco Travel purchases count once travel is completed, and the 2% Reward is issued about three months before your membership renewal date in the Renewal Statement. You must be a current, paid Executive member at the end of the membership year to receive it.
Does travel bought through a third party count for the Costco 2% Reward?
No. Costco's Executive Rewards terms exclude travel purchased through a third party, along with surcharges, gratuities, trip protection, upgrades, rental car equipment, resort charges and port charges. Purchases need to be made directly from Costco Travel.
How does ShopBack lower the price of a vacation?
Plan the trip, then book through ShopBack. Open ShopBack US, tap the travel site, and book there. Cashback lowers what you actually pay for an order. It comes back as cash, so it works like a discount on the price, not like points or miles.
Key takeaways
- Costco Travel sells only to members; Gold Star is $65 a year and Executive is $130, plus tax, according to Costco.
- Costco lists its member-only travel values as vacation packages, hotels, cruises and rental cars, so standalone flights are rarely where it helps.
- Executive members earn about 2% back on qualifying Costco Travel purchases once travel is completed, capped at $1,250 a year.
- The Executive upgrade breaks even at about $3,250 of qualifying Costco spending a year.
- Compare the effective price: Costco package minus the 2% Reward, against the same trip elsewhere minus the cash ShopBack returns.
- Plan the trip, then book through ShopBack, and if you are new to Costco, start the membership from the ShopBack Costco page.
Tip. Joining Costco for the first time? Start from the ShopBack Costco page and check the live rate before you sign up.
