Expedia Hawaii Vacation Packages in 2026: Are They the Best Value?
By Mirabelle Chew · Published 8 October 2026 · Updated 8 October 2026
For most US travelers, Expedia Hawaii vacation packages are good value when your dates and hotel are fixed and you would book the flight and hotel anyway, because the bundle is priced as one trip. They are not automatically the cheapest. In 2025, 17% of Hawaii's 9.5 million air visitors came on a package trip, according to Hawaii's DBEDT. Compare the bundle with separate bookings, then go through ShopBack before you pay.
New to ShopBack? ShopBack US is a free app and website that gives you cash back on purchases at partner stores, including Expedia. You tap through ShopBack before you book, finish your booking as normal, and the cash lands in your ShopBack account once the booking is confirmed. Join ShopBack US in about two minutes.
Before you book: open Expedia on ShopBack, check the rate shown on that page, then tap through to Expedia.
Expedia Hawaii vacation packages: are they the best value?
Expedia packages are usually the best value for one kind of trip: fixed dates, a mainstream hotel or resort, and a round trip from a US mainland airport. That trip profile is common. According to Hawaii's Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism (DBEDT) 2025 Annual Visitor Research Report, 1,619,243 air visitors came on a package trip in 2025, or 17.0% of all air visitors, up from 16.3% in 2024. DBEDT counts a package as airline tickets and accommodations bought together.
Packages are less likely to win in three cases:
- You are using points or a companion fare for the flight. The package price assumes a cash fare, so a flight you already have covered takes away most of the bundle logic.
- You are staying in a vacation rental or with family. DBEDT data shows 54.0% of US West visitors and 59.6% of US East visitors stayed in hotels in 2025. The rest used condos, rental homes, timeshares or stayed with friends and relatives, and those stays rarely sit inside a flight and hotel bundle.
- You are island hopping. A package built around one island and one hotel is simplest to price. Multi-island trips with inter-island flights add pieces that can be easier to book one by one.
The practical test takes about ten minutes. Price your exact dates as a package on Expedia, then price the same flight and the same hotel separately. If the package is lower, or the same price with better cancellation terms, the package is the value pick for that trip.
What a Hawaii trip costs: the 2025 numbers behind "value"
"Best value" only makes sense against what a Hawaii trip usually costs. DBEDT's 2025 report gives the clearest public baseline:
| Measure (2025, air visitors) | Figure | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Total visitors to Hawaii | 9,645,161 | DBEDT |
| Visitors arriving by air | 9,495,620 | DBEDT |
| Average length of stay | 8.73 days | DBEDT |
| Average spend per person per day | $262 | DBEDT |
| US West visitors: spend per person per day | $249 | DBEDT |
| US East visitors: spend per person per day | $292 | DBEDT |
| US West average length of stay | 8.40 days | DBEDT |
| US East average length of stay | 9.42 days | DBEDT |
DBEDT's spending figures include prepaid packages but exclude airfare to and from Hawaii. Lodging was the largest category, at $10.03 billion of the $21.91 billion all visitors spent in 2025, according to the report.
Here is what those averages mean for a couple from the West Coast. Two people at $249 each per day for 8.4 days comes to about $4,183 in on-island spending, before flights. Hotel nights are the largest piece of that. Because a package bundles the hotel with the flight, the package price is mostly a hotel price, and that is where comparison pays off.
One cost change is worth knowing for 2026. According to the Office of Governor Josh Green, Act 96 (Senate Bill 1396), Hawaii's Green Fee law, raises the transient accommodations tax rate by 0.75 percentage points beginning in 2026. That tax applies to hotel stays, so the taxes and fees line on a 2026 package may look higher than on a similar 2025 trip. Read the full price breakdown on the last booking page before you pay. For a longer cost walk-through, see our Hawaii trip cost guide for East Coast travelers.
Expedia official packages: how they work
Expedia's own packages let you book a flight and a hotel together, and you can usually add a rental car or activities in the same checkout. A few things are worth knowing before you search:
- Each part keeps its own rules. The airline's fare rules still apply to the flight, and the hotel's cancellation policy still applies to the room. A package can mix a refundable hotel with a non-refundable fare, so check both.
- The total is shown as one price. Expedia usually shows the bundle as a single total rather than a line for the flight and a line for the hotel. That is why pricing the parts separately is the most reliable way to see whether the bundle saves you money on your dates.
- Resort fees and taxes matter in Hawaii. Many Hawaii resorts charge a daily resort fee. Check whether it is included in the total or collected at the hotel.
Expedia's loyalty program is One Key. Expedia Group launched One Key in 2023 for Expedia, Hotels.com and Vrbo, so members can earn and use rewards across the three brands. It is free to join. Sign in before you search, since member pricing and rewards depend on being logged in. One Key is run by Expedia, while ShopBack is a separate step you take before you book. The terms on ShopBack's Expedia page explain which bookings qualify.
Hawaii vacation packages 2026: which island and which dates
Hawaii vacation packages vary most by island and by dates. DBEDT's 2025 figures show where US visitors go:
| Island | 2025 visitor arrivals | Change vs 2024 |
|---|---|---|
| Oahu | 5,665,698 | down 2.2% |
| Maui | 2,531,472 | up 7.6% |
| Hawaii Island | 1,724,952 | down 0.6% |
| Kauai | 1,407,632 | up 1.0% |
Half of US West visitors (49.5%) went to Oahu in 2025, and 58.6% of US East visitors did, according to DBEDT. Oahu also has the most flights. DBEDT counted 8,431,775 scheduled seats into Honolulu in 2025, against 2,427,647 into Kahului on Maui, 1,249,118 into Kona and 1,044,260 into Lihue on Kauai. More seats and more hotels usually mean more package combinations to compare, which is one reason Oahu packages are often the easiest to price competitively.
On dates, package prices usually run highest around summer school holidays and the December holidays, when demand peaks. Spring and fall dates outside school breaks usually give you more choice. If your dates are flexible, check a week earlier and a week later before you commit, because a shift of a few days can change both the fare and the hotel rate. Expedia holiday packages: flight and hotel deals for US travelers in 2026
Expedia runs its own sales on flight and hotel bundles across the year, and US holiday weekends such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday are common times for travel sales. Promotions change often, so the safe approach is simple:
- Pick your dates and island first. A sale only helps if it covers your trip.
- Sign in to One Key so member pricing shows.
- Price the package and the separate parts for the same flight and hotel.
- Check cancellation terms for the flight and the hotel.
- Open ShopBack before you book, then tap through to Expedia and pay in the same session.
Codes and live offers that are valid right now are listed on ShopBack's Expedia page, next to the current rate.
site:expedia.com holiday packages: what you will find on Expedia's own site
People often search Expedia's own site for package pages, and that is where the official offers live. On expedia.com you will usually find package search for flight plus hotel, flight plus hotel plus car, and hotel plus car, along with destination pages for Hawaii's main islands. When you tap through from ShopBack, you land on Expedia's own site and book there as usual, so you search the same packages. The difference is that the purchase is tracked to your ShopBack account.
The last step before you book flights or hotels: open ShopBack
The last step before you book flights or hotels is to open ShopBack. Do it after you have compared prices and before you pay, so the booking you finish is the one that counts.
- Sign in to ShopBack US on the app or website.
- Open Expedia on ShopBack and check the rate shown there.
- Tap through to Expedia and book your Hawaii package in the same session.
- The cash shows as pending in your ShopBack account, then confirms after your trip.
Cashback lowers what you actually pay for an order. It comes back as cash, so it works like a discount on the price, not like points or miles. That makes it easy to compare against any other price you have found.
Your effective price is what you pay minus the cash ShopBack returns. Here is a worked example. On a $3,000 Hawaii package at an illustrative 4%, $120 comes back, so the effective price is $2,880. If the same flight and hotel booked separately cost $2,950, the package is the better buy at $2,880 effective. Rates change, so check the live rate on ShopBack's Expedia page before you book.
Other booking sites that sell Hawaii packages
Expedia is one of several US booking sites in this category: Priceline and Trip.com also sell flight and hotel bundles, and Booking.com and Hotels.com are common for hotel-only stays. Each has strengths depending on the trip, and our Expedia vs Priceline vs Hotwire comparison covers hotel pricing across them. Whichever site wins on your dates, go through ShopBack US first.
Frequently asked questions
Are Expedia Hawaii vacation packages the best value?
Often, but not always. An Expedia Hawaii package is usually good value when your dates are fixed, you want a standard hotel, and you would book the flight and hotel anyway, because the bundle is priced as one trip. It is not automatically the cheapest option, so price the same flight and hotel separately before you pay. Then go through ShopBack US before you book, so part of what you pay comes back as cash.
How much does a Hawaii vacation cost per day in 2026?
According to Hawaii's Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism (DBEDT), visitors arriving by air spent an average of $262 per person per day in 2025, not counting airfare to and from Hawaii. Visitors from the US West spent $249 per person per day and visitors from the US East spent $292. Lodging was the largest spending category at $10.03 billion across all visitors.
How many Hawaii visitors book a package trip?
DBEDT counted 1,619,243 air visitors on a package trip in 2025, which is 17.0% of all air visitors, up from 16.3% in 2024. DBEDT defines a package trip as one that includes airline tickets and accommodations bought together. From the US West, 645,923 visitors came on a package, up 6.3% on 2024.
What is included in an Expedia Hawaii vacation package?
An Expedia vacation package combines a flight and a hotel, and you can usually add a rental car or activities, in one booking. Each part keeps its own rules, so the airline's fare rules and the hotel's cancellation policy still apply. Check what is included, such as resort fees, baggage and transfers, on the final booking page before you pay.
What is Expedia One Key?
One Key is the loyalty program Expedia Group launched in 2023 for Expedia, Hotels.com and Vrbo, so members can earn and use rewards across the three brands. It is free to join. Sign in before you search for a Hawaii package, since member pricing and rewards depend on being logged in.
Which Hawaiian island do most US visitors book?
Oahu. DBEDT counted 5,665,698 visitor arrivals on Oahu in 2025, followed by Maui at 2,531,472, Hawaii Island at 1,724,952 and Kauai at 1,407,632. Half of US West visitors (49.5%) went to Oahu. Oahu also has the most air seats, with 8,431,775 scheduled seats into Honolulu in 2025, which tends to give package search more flight and hotel options.
When is the best time to book a Hawaii vacation package?
Package prices usually run highest around summer school holidays and the December holidays, when demand peaks. Spring and fall travel dates outside school breaks usually give more choice at lower prices. Compare a few date ranges on Expedia, and if the dates are flexible, check a week earlier or later before you commit.
Did Hawaii hotel taxes go up in 2026?
Yes. According to the Office of Governor Josh Green, Act 96 (Senate Bill 1396), Hawaii's Green Fee law, raises the transient accommodations tax rate by 0.75 percentage points beginning in 2026. That tax applies to the hotel part of a stay, so check the taxes and fees line on any Hawaii package before you pay.
How do I get cashback on an Expedia Hawaii package?
Make ShopBack the last step before you book. Sign in to ShopBack US, open the Expedia page on ShopBack, tap through to Expedia and complete the package booking in the same session. The cash comes back to your ShopBack account after the trip is confirmed. The current rate is shown on ShopBack's Expedia page.
What is the effective price of a Hawaii vacation package?
Your effective price is what you pay minus the cash ShopBack returns. On a $3,000 Hawaii package at an illustrative 4%, $120 comes back, so the effective price is $2,880. Check the live rate on ShopBack's Expedia page, because rates change.
Where else can I book Hawaii flight and hotel packages?
Priceline and Trip.com also sell flight and hotel bundles, and Booking.com and Hotels.com are common choices for hotel-only stays. Price the same flight and hotel on two sites before you book, and go through ShopBack US first at whichever one wins.
