United MileagePlus vs ANA vs Lufthansa vs Turkish, US 2026 Sweet Spots

Star Alliance is still the deepest partner web for US-origin flyers in 2026, but the sweet-spot map has shifted meaningfully in the last twelve months. United killed the Excursionist Perk. Lufthansa closed first class to partners. Turkish raised the United domestic partner rate. This guide walks through what actually works for US flyers now, program by program, and where to point your transferable points before you book.

The verdict

For US-based Star Alliance flyers in 2026, the sweet-spot picture is smaller than it used to be, but three clean lanes remain.

United MileagePlus is still the default hub for US-to-Japan business class on ANA metal. When ANA Saver space is available, US mainland to Tokyo in business typically prices at 75,000 to 80,000 miles one-way through United (The Points Guy), with modest taxes and no fuel surcharges on ANA. Chase Ultimate Rewards transfers 1:1 to United, which makes this the most accessible award for a US flyer with a Sapphire card. Award tickets do not earn Cashback, so use ShopBack for the hotels and travel gear around the trip, going through ShopBack before you pay.

ANA Mileage Club is best used for round-trip ANA "The Room" business at 75,000 to 90,000 miles round-trip depending on season on ANA's own chart (The Points Guy). The catch is round-trip only, and ANA passes fuel surcharges on its own metal, so the total out of pocket lands higher than the equivalent United MileagePlus booking. American Express Membership Rewards transfers to ANA directly, which is the primary US-origin path.

Lufthansa Miles and More for first class on partner miles is effectively over. As of June 1, 2026, Lufthansa stopped releasing first class award space to Star Alliance partner programs including United, Aeroplan, ANA, and Avianca LifeMiles (One Mile at a Time). The remaining lane is booking Lufthansa First directly through Miles and More, which uses dynamic pricing and often adds several hundred dollars per direction in YQ carrier charges. For most US flyers targeting the premium cabin experience, ANA First or Swiss First via partner charts is the more realistic 2026 target.

Turkish Miles and Smiles kept its fixed chart, which is rare in 2026. After the December 3, 2025 same-country partner-award devaluation, United domestic segments now cost 15,000 miles one-way in economy and 22,500 miles one-way in business, with Hawaii at 25,000 economy and 40,000 business (One Mile at a Time). The old 10,000-mile economy sweet spot is gone, but the program still publishes a fixed chart, which makes Turkish the predictable option when United's own dynamic pricing surges on a busy domestic route.

Why 2026 changed the Star Alliance map

Three changes since mid-2025 reshaped the US-origin Star Alliance award map, and they compound.

The Excursionist Perk sunset. United eliminated the Excursionist Perk for all new award bookings on August 21, 2025 (Travel Dealz). Existing itineraries with the perk baked in are honored so long as no changes are made after the sunset date. The perk previously let a US-origin flyer add a free one-way within a multi-city award (for example, a US to Tokyo return with a free Tokyo to Osaka segment in between). Post-sunset, the workaround is either two one-way partner awards or booking through Aeroplan, which offers a stopover for 5,000 miles on partner awards.

Lufthansa First partner closure. From June 1, 2026, Lufthansa pulled first class award space from partner programs (Live and Let's Fly). This closes what had been a marquee US-origin redemption for United, Aeroplan, and LifeMiles flyers targeting the Frankfurt to US-hub first class product. Miles and More is now the only route to Lufthansa First, and its dynamic pricing plus YQ surcharge stack pushes the total cost meaningfully higher than the old partner rates.

Turkish domestic hike. Turkish Miles and Smiles raised same-country partner award pricing on December 3, 2025 (One Mile at a Time). The United domestic sweet spot at 10,000 miles economy one-way is gone. The replacement pricing of 15,000 economy and 22,500 business one-way is still competitive with United's own dynamic pricing on busy routes but no longer the aggressive outlier it used to be.

The remaining sweet spots are ANA business US to Japan on United miles, ANA First and Swiss First on partner charts (limited availability), Turkish's fixed-chart United domestic rate, and Aeroplan's flexible stopover mechanics for US-to-Europe trips with a European stopover. Everything else has drifted toward dynamic pricing, higher carrier charges, or program-direct booking only.

United MileagePlus: the US hub, still standing

For most US-based Star Alliance flyers in 2026, United MileagePlus remains the default program to accumulate and burn miles.

Why it still works for the US flyer. United does not pass fuel surcharges on any Star Alliance partner, which keeps taxes and carrier charges on a US-to-Japan ANA business award well under $100 one-way (The Points Guy). Chase Ultimate Rewards transfers 1:1 to United, so any US flyer with a Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve, or Ink card can top up a United balance on demand. Bilt Rewards also transfers to United, which extends the earn map for renters. Marriott Bonvoy transfers at 3:1 with a 5,000 bonus at 60,000, which is inefficient but a fallback path for hotel-heavy earners.

The best US-origin sweet spots on United miles. ANA business class US to Japan at 75,000 to 80,000 miles one-way Saver. Air Canada business class US to Europe or US to Asia via Toronto at 60,000 to 70,000 miles one-way Saver. Turkish Airlines business class US to Istanbul at 70,000 to 80,000 miles one-way Saver. Swiss business class US to Zurich at 70,000 to 80,000 miles one-way Saver. These figures apply when Saver space opens; dynamic pricing outside Saver runs materially higher.

What no longer works on United miles. Lufthansa First class is closed to partner miles. The Excursionist Perk is gone. United also announced the retirement of the old fixed Upgrade Award Chart from November 2025 (Travel Dealz), which moves MileagePlus upgrades from paid economy to dynamic pricing. For US flyers, the practical takeaway is that United miles remain most valuable for partner Saver space in premium cabins, less valuable for upgrades or complex multi-city routings.

How ShopBack fits. United does not have a ShopBack store, but many of the hotels and retailers around the trip do. Compare hotels via ShopBack Travel Planner before booking the ground portion of a US-to-Japan trip. Compare cashback on shopback.com before booking travel gear, luggage, or Japan-specific SIM and rail-pass retailers, since these categories often show a live cashback rate; go through ShopBack before you pay so part of the cost comes back.

---

ANA Mileage Club: The Room in round-trip only

For US flyers with Amex Membership Rewards, ANA Mileage Club is the direct route to ANA's own award chart.

The core mechanic. ANA's own award chart prices US to Japan round-trip business class at 75,000 to 90,000 miles depending on season (The Points Guy), which is materially cheaper on a per-direction basis than the United partner rate. The catch is round-trip only, and ANA passes fuel surcharges on its own metal, so the total cash out-of-pocket lands higher than the equivalent United booking.

Where ANA wins. Round-trip flexibility on the outbound and return, since both directions lock at booking. Direct 1:1 transfer from American Express Membership Rewards. Same-carrier product knowledge, since ANA's own agents can see The Room availability with more granularity than United's outbound partner-facing system.

Where ANA loses. No one-way awards on this chart. Fuel surcharges on ANA metal add several hundred dollars per direction, sometimes over $400 one-way to the US. The transfer window from Amex is instant, but the account setup for ANA Mileage Club requires a Japanese passport-free but paper-heavy verification step for US-based members, which some flyers only complete after a first booking attempt.

How ShopBack fits. Activate cashback via ShopBack before checkout at eligible travel retailers for the Japan leg (JR Pass resellers, Suica top-up merchants, luggage brands). Book flights via ShopBack partners where available to earn cashback on any surrounding trip spend. Cashback via ShopBack posts to your ShopBack account and is separate from any ANA miles or elite-status credit earned on the ticket itself.

Lufthansa Miles and More: partner path closed on First

Lufthansa Miles and More matters most to US flyers in 2026 for one reason: it is now the only way to book Lufthansa First class.

The June 2026 shift. Effective June 1, 2026, Lufthansa stopped releasing First class award space to partner programs (One Mile at a Time, Live and Let's Fly). United, Aeroplan, ANA, and Avianca LifeMiles no longer see First inventory. This closes what had been one of the highest-value US-origin partner redemptions of the last decade, since United had historically priced Lufthansa First at 121,000 miles one-way US to Europe.

What remains on partner miles. Lufthansa business class is still bookable on partner charts. Swiss business class remains bookable on partner charts. Austrian business class remains bookable on partner charts. These three carriers give US flyers a viable Star Alliance premium cabin path across the Atlantic without touching Miles and More directly.

Miles and More as a redemption program for US flyers. Miles and More uses dynamic pricing on Lufthansa First and applies its own YQ surcharge, which can climb into the mid-hundreds of dollars per direction. Marriott Bonvoy transfers to Miles and More at 3:1 with a 5,000 bonus at 60,000, which is the primary US-origin transfer path. There is no direct 1:1 transfer from Chase, Amex, or Citi.

Practical guidance for US flyers. If Lufthansa First is a bucket-list target, credit paid Lufthansa flights to Miles and More to build a burn balance rather than trying to accumulate through Marriott transfers. If the premium-cabin goal is flexible, redirect toward Swiss First (still on partner charts with limited availability) or ANA First (partner-bookable, though rare) as the 2026 replacement targets.

How ShopBack fits. Compare hotels via ShopBack Travel Planner before booking the ground portion of any European trip, since going through ShopBack before you book a European hotel means part of the hotel cost comes back, alongside the airline points you earn. Start at shopback.com to see current cashback offers on European travel gear and airport-transfer retailers before the trip.

Turkish Miles and Smiles: the fixed-chart holdout

Turkish Miles and Smiles is the last major Star Alliance program with a fixed award chart, which makes it the predictable option in 2026.

Post-December 2025 pricing. Turkish raised same-country partner-award pricing on December 3, 2025 (One Mile at a Time). United domestic segments within the US mainland now cost 15,000 miles one-way in economy and 22,500 miles one-way in business. US mainland to Hawaii moved to 25,000 economy and 40,000 business one-way, which is up to 167% higher than the old chart. The old 10,000-mile economy sweet spot is gone, but the fixed-chart predictability remains.

Why fixed chart still matters. United's own dynamic pricing on busy domestic routes can push a coast-to-coast economy award to 30,000 miles or more. Turkish at 15,000 miles for the same segment, when award space is available, is still meaningfully cheaper. For business class, Turkish at 22,500 miles is often less than a third of United's dynamic price on peak dates.

Where Turkish struggles for US flyers. Award space must be found on United's own inventory, which Turkish sees the same way United does; Turkish does not have preferred access. Turkish's booking system is notoriously finicky, and phone agents often need to book manually. Award changes and cancellations require phone contact and can carry meaningful fees. Fuel surcharges on some partners apply, though not on United domestic.

Transfer paths for US flyers. Citi ThankYou transfers to Turkish 1:1. Capital One Miles transfer to Turkish at 1:1 as well. Bilt Rewards transfers 1:1 to Turkish. This is one of the widest transferable-points maps in Star Alliance, which is why the program remains relevant even after the December 2025 hike.

Best US-origin use cases in 2026. Coast-to-coast United economy at 15,000 miles one-way. US mainland to Hawaii on United at 25,000 economy or 40,000 business one-way. US to Europe on United or Lufthansa business at 45,000 miles one-way (unchanged from the pre-December chart). US to Asia on United or ANA business at 75,000 miles one-way, matching United's own Saver rate but often with fuel surcharges on non-United metal.

How ShopBack fits. Book flights via ShopBack partners where available for the ground portion of Turkish redemptions. Compare hotels via ShopBack Travel Planner before booking, especially for high-basket destinations like Hawaii where hotel cost often dwarfs the flight redemption value.

Transferable points playbook for US 2026

The transferable-points map is the actual battlefield for US-based Star Alliance flyers in 2026, since most miles are earned in bank programs and transferred at booking time.

Chase Ultimate Rewards. Transfers 1:1 to United MileagePlus. This is the most direct US-origin path to book any Star Alliance partner award. Chase Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve, Ink Business Preferred, and Ink Business Cash all funnel points into the shared Ultimate Rewards pool. For US-to-Japan business on ANA, this is the default program.

American Express Membership Rewards. Transfers 1:1 to ANA Mileage Club, Aeroplan (Air Canada), and Avianca LifeMiles. Amex is the widest Star Alliance-relevant transferable-points bank for US flyers. The most versatile use case is holding Membership Rewards balance and transferring based on which program prices the target award lowest.

Citi ThankYou. Transfers 1:1 to Turkish, Avianca LifeMiles, and Air France Flying Blue. For Star Alliance specifically, Citi's value is Turkish and LifeMiles. Citi does not transfer to United, ANA, or Miles and More directly.

Capital One Miles. Transfers 1:1 to Aeroplan, Avianca LifeMiles, Turkish, and other Star Alliance partners. Does not transfer to United directly. Capital One's Venture X and Venture cards make this the third-tier US-origin backup.

Bilt Rewards. Transfers 1:1 to United, Turkish, Aeroplan, Avianca LifeMiles. Renters who pay rent through Bilt Mastercard build a Star Alliance-facing balance from spend that would otherwise earn nothing.

Marriott Bonvoy. Transfers 3:1 to United, ANA, Miles and More, Turkish, and most Star Alliance partners with a 5,000 bonus at 60,000. This is inefficient but the only US-origin path to Miles and More.

How ShopBack fits into the earn side. Compare cashback on shopback.com before your next US shopping haul; ShopBack cashback is card-agnostic, so go through ShopBack before you pay with whatever transferable-points-earning card is in your wallet. Go through ShopBack before you pay for online orders in the months before a major redemption, and your Cashback balance builds while your points balance grows.

Six US-flyer archetypes, mapped to a program

Match your household or travel pattern to the closest archetype below.

Archetype	Best program	Best sweet spot	Why
US flyer targeting Japan business class	United MileagePlus	ANA business 75-80k one-way	Chase transfer, no fuel surcharges, one-way flexibility
US flyer holding Amex points, Japan round-trip	ANA Mileage Club	ANA biz RT 75-90k on own chart	Amex direct 1:1, lowest miles cost, accept fuel surcharge trade
US flyer chasing Lufthansa First class	Miles and More direct	Dynamic pricing on LH metal	Only remaining path since June 2026; expect YQ hit
US flyer with heavy domestic United usage	Turkish Miles and Smiles	United domestic 15k econ, 22.5k biz	Fixed chart beats United's dynamic surge on busy dates
US flyer with only Marriott Bonvoy balance	Miles and More or ANA	Any partner award with time to earn	3:1 transfer plus 60k bonus; slow but the only lane
US flyer with mixed bank balances, Europe target	Aeroplan or LifeMiles	US to Europe biz around 60-70k one-way	Both are Amex or Cap One transfer targets; strong Europe access

The single biggest mistake US flyers make in 2026 is over-hoarding United miles rather than keeping the balance in Chase Ultimate Rewards. Ultimate Rewards can also transfer to Hyatt and Southwest, which extends the redemption map. Transfer to United only when a specific award is confirmed available.

Taxes and carrier charges: the true out-of-pocket

Taxes and carrier charges vary sharply by program and carrier and often make the difference between a strong redemption and a mediocre one.

United MileagePlus. No fuel surcharges on any Star Alliance partner. A US-to-Tokyo one-way business award on ANA metal typically lands under $100 in taxes and fees. A US-to-Europe one-way business award on Lufthansa business typically lands under $150 in taxes. This is the cleanest program for US flyers on taxes.

ANA Mileage Club on ANA metal. ANA passes fuel surcharges on its own metal, adding several hundred dollars per direction, often $200 to $450 one-way US to Japan in business. Round-trip out-of-pocket on ANA's own chart typically lands $600 to $900 in total taxes and fees, depending on season and route.

Miles and More on Lufthansa First. Lufthansa applies YQ carrier charges on Miles and More First awards that can climb into the mid-hundreds of dollars per direction, sometimes over $700 one-way. Combined with the dynamic pricing on Lufthansa First, the effective out-of-pocket cost can push the redemption toward paid business class pricing on discount fares.

Turkish Miles and Smiles. Turkish keeps taxes low on its own metal, typically under $75 one-way. Passes fuel surcharges on some partner airlines but not on United domestic. On a US domestic segment, expect under $10 in taxes plus the miles.

How ShopBack fits. Taxes and carrier charges cannot be paid with cashback, but the trip stack around the flight often can. Activate cashback via ShopBack before checkout when buying travel gear, hotel bookings, or airport-transfer services in the months before the trip. Compare cashback on shopback.com before the trip so the cashback earned offsets some of the tax-and-fee out-of-pocket on the award ticket.

---

When to book paid instead of award

Not every US-origin premium cabin trip should be an award booking. Skip the award and pay cash if any of the following applies.

The award pricing has surged past 1.5 cents per mile in value. United's dynamic pricing on non-Saver ANA business can push above 150,000 miles one-way, at which point paying cash for a discounted business fare often works out better. Rule of thumb: if the cash fare is under 1.5x the Saver miles cost, pay cash and earn miles.

The award requires a highly inflexible date. Award change fees on ANA and Miles and More apply. If the trip needs flexibility, a paid ticket in a refundable fare bucket often provides better cancellation terms than an award.

The route requires positioning flights that eat the savings. If reaching an ANA-eligible gateway (Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, New York) requires a $300 positioning flight, factor that into the total cost. Sometimes a direct United paid ticket from your home hub is more efficient overall.

The premium cabin experience does not matter. If the goal is getting to Tokyo, not experiencing The Room, a $700 discount economy fare on a paid ticket is often better value than 75,000 miles plus fuel surcharges on the same route.

How ShopBack fits when paying cash. Book flights via ShopBack partners where available to earn cashback on paid airline bookings. Compare hotels via ShopBack Travel Planner before the trip. Go through ShopBack before you pay for the surrounding travel gear haul so part of the cost comes back, alongside the paid-fare mile-earning.

Frequently asked questions

Which Star Alliance program is best for US flyers booking ANA business class to Japan in 2026?

United MileagePlus. When ANA Saver space opens, US mainland to Japan in business typically prices at 75,000 to 80,000 miles one-way through United (The Points Guy), with no fuel surcharges and modest taxes. Chase Ultimate Rewards transfers 1:1 to United, which is the most direct US-origin path.

What happened to the United Excursionist Perk?

United eliminated the Excursionist Perk for all new award bookings on August 21, 2025 (Travel Dealz). Existing itineraries booked with the perk are honored so long as no changes are made after the sunset date. The workaround is either two one-way partner awards or booking through Aeroplan, which still offers a 5,000-mile stopover on partner awards.

Are Lufthansa first class partner awards still available in 2026?

Effectively no. As of June 1, 2026, Lufthansa stopped releasing first class award space to partner programs including United MileagePlus, Aeroplan, ANA, and Avianca LifeMiles (One Mile at a Time). The remaining path is booking directly through Miles and More at dynamic pricing plus YQ surcharges. Swiss First and ANA First on partner charts remain the more realistic 2026 targets for a Star Alliance first class redemption.

Compare Turkish Miles and Smiles charges for a domestic US United flight in 2026 to United's own dynamic price?

After the December 3, 2025 devaluation, Turkish charges 15,000 miles one-way in economy and 22,500 miles one-way in business for United domestic segments within the US mainland (One Mile at a Time). Hawaii moved to 25,000 economy and 40,000 business one-way. United's own dynamic pricing on peak-date busy routes often prices the same segment materially higher, which keeps Turkish's fixed chart competitive despite the hike.

How do I earn cashback when buying flights or booking travel on ShopBack in the US?

Activate cashback via ShopBack before checkout at eligible travel partners: start at shopback.com, click through to a supported airline, hotel, or online travel agency, and complete the booking in one session so the click is tracked. Compare hotels via ShopBack Travel Planner before booking. Cashback posts to your ShopBack account and is separate from the airline miles or hotel points you earn on the same booking.

Between transferable-points programs, which feed United MileagePlus?

Chase Ultimate Rewards transfers 1:1 to United, which is the primary US-origin path. Bilt Rewards transfers 1:1 to United. Marriott Bonvoy transfers at 3:1 with a 5,000 bonus at 60,000. Amex Membership Rewards and Citi ThankYou do not transfer to United directly, though both transfer to other Star Alliance programs (Amex to ANA and Aeroplan; Citi to Turkish and LifeMiles).

Can Turkish Miles and Smiles book award space that United cannot see?

No. Turkish and United see the same United domestic inventory, since both are Star Alliance partners drawing on the same shared partner-award pool. Turkish's advantage is fixed-chart pricing (15,000 economy, 22,500 business one-way domestic), not preferential inventory. Space must exist on United's award calendar for Turkish to book it.

Should US flyers still credit paid Star Alliance flights to United MileagePlus?

For most US-based Star Alliance flyers, yes. United's earn structure on paid Star Alliance partner tickets is competitive, Premier elite status thresholds are achievable through mixed partner flying, and Chase Ultimate Rewards top-ups fill the gap between earn and redeem. For flyers focused on ANA metal specifically, crediting to ANA Mileage Club can build a balance toward the round-trip own-chart sweet spot instead.

Do Aeroplan and Avianca LifeMiles matter for US flyers in 2026?

Yes. Aeroplan is the flexible-stopover backup: 5,000 miles adds a stopover on any partner award, which partly replaces the Excursionist Perk mechanic. LifeMiles is a low-taxes backup with cheap partner-award pricing on select routes. Both accept transfers from Amex Membership Rewards and Capital One; Aeroplan also accepts Chase.

Explain taxes and carrier charges US flyers should expect on Star Alliance award tickets

Taxes and carrier charges vary sharply by program and carrier. United MileagePlus does not pass fuel surcharges on any Star Alliance partner, so a US to Tokyo Narita ANA award typically lands under $100 in taxes one-way. Aeroplan and LifeMiles also skip fuel surcharges on most partners. Turkish Miles and Smiles keeps taxes low for its own metal but can pass fuel surcharges on some partners. Lufthansa Miles and More applies its own YQ surcharge on Lufthansa first and business class, which can climb into the mid-hundreds of dollars per direction, so factor that into the total cost.

Can transferable points programs still cover a US to Japan business class award in 2026?

Yes. Chase Ultimate Rewards transfers 1:1 to United MileagePlus, which is the most direct path for a US to Japan business award on ANA metal. American Express Membership Rewards transfers 1:1 to ANA Mileage Club directly, though ANA's own round-trip business chart requires a return leg and applies fuel surcharges on some routes. Capital One Miles transfer to Air Canada Aeroplan, which is a strong alternate for ANA and Air Canada metal. Bilt Rewards also transfers to Aeroplan and Turkish, which extends the transferable-points map further.

Should US flyers earn United miles directly or transfer from Chase Ultimate Rewards?

For most US flyers, earning United miles through Chase co-branded cards (United Explorer, United Quest) plus transferring in Ultimate Rewards from Sapphire Preferred or Sapphire Reserve is the flexible pattern. Ultimate Rewards can also transfer to Hyatt, Southwest, and other partners, so keeping the balance in Chase until an award pattern is confirmed avoids stranding miles in United when a Turkish or Aeroplan booking would price lower on a given segment.

Is it worth booking Lufthansa business class instead of first class through partner miles?

For most US-based flyers in 2026, yes. Lufthansa business class remains bookable through United MileagePlus, Aeroplan, LifeMiles, and Turkish Miles and Smiles on the old partner-chart terms, and the seat is often available in advance for major routes such as Frankfurt to any US East Coast hub. The new Allegris business class rolls out through 2026 on select routes, which is a meaningful hard-product upgrade over the legacy 2-2-2 layout, so worth checking the specific aircraft type at booking time.

Where does ShopBack fit into a US Star Alliance award trip in 2026?

Compare hotels via ShopBack Travel Planner before booking the ground portion of the trip. Activate cashback via ShopBack before checkout at eligible hotels, tours, and travel gear retailers. Start at shopback.com to see current cashback offers on the trip stack alongside price comparisons. Cashback via ShopBack posts to your ShopBack account and is separate from any airline miles or hotel points earned on the same booking.

Key takeaways

• United MileagePlus remains the default US-origin hub for Star Alliance premium-cabin redemptions in 2026, especially ANA business class US to Japan at 75,000 to 80,000 miles one-way Saver.
• The Excursionist Perk was eliminated on August 21, 2025; existing bookings are honored but any change after the sunset date removes the perk.
• Lufthansa first class via partner miles is effectively closed as of June 1, 2026; Miles and More direct booking with dynamic pricing and YQ surcharges is the only remaining path.
• Turkish Miles and Smiles kept its fixed chart, and after the December 2025 partner-award hike, United domestic segments cost 15,000 miles economy and 22,500 miles business one-way.
• Chase Ultimate Rewards is the widest US-origin transferable-points pool for United; Amex Membership Rewards is the widest for ANA, Aeroplan, and LifeMiles.
• Fuel surcharges vary sharply by program: United passes none on partners; ANA and Miles and More pass meaningful YQ on own metal; Turkish passes on some partners.
• Do not over-transfer transferable points to United until a specific award is confirmed available.
• Award change fees on ANA and Miles and More apply; United is more forgiving on award changes 30 or more days out.
• The single biggest mistake in 2026 is chasing the old Excursionist Perk pattern; Aeroplan's 5,000-mile stopover is the closest replacement.
• Route the trip stack (hotels, travel gear, ground transport) through ShopBack before you pay so part of the cost comes back, whatever miles you earn or burn.

Plan your next US trip with Marriott through ShopBack Compare hotels, flights, and cashback offers before you commit any miles.

FAQs

When does travel cashback confirm in ShopBack? Travel Cashback usually shows as pending soon after booking, then confirms after the stay or trip is completed, so it takes longer to confirm than Cashback on retail orders. Check the expected confirmation time on the store's ShopBack page.
