What are good gifts for a dad who wants nothing?

The best gift for a dad who says he wants nothing is one that fits into his life without adding clutter. When a dad says he needs nothing, he usually means he does not want more things to store. He still drinks coffee, wears socks, charges his phone and likes time with the family. Gifts that fit those habits are the ones that get used.

Most good ideas fall into four groups:

Gift type	Why it works for a dad who wants nothing	Ideas	Where to look
Things he will use up	No clutter; it gets used and enjoyed	Specialty coffee, favorite snacks, grilling rubs, nice soap or shaving supplies	Target, Macy's
Upgrades to daily items	Replaces something worn out with a better one	Slippers, a wallet, socks, a robe, headphones, a phone charger	Macy's, Target, Best Buy
Help and services	Removes a chore he puts off	A tech setup session, a streaming subscription, a smart home device you install for him	Best Buy
Time and experiences	Takes up no space, builds a memory	Game tickets, a class, a round of golf, a planned day out	Book directly; pair with a small item

A simple test before you buy: picture where the gift will live in his house a month from now. If the answer is a drawer, pick something from the first or last row instead.

Gifts for dad: how to choose when he will not give you a hint

Watch for one week and note what he uses, complains about or borrows. That list usually beats any gift guide.

1. Look at what is worn out. Frayed slippers, a cracked phone case, an old wallet or headphones held together with tape are easy wins.
2. Notice what he complains about. A slow phone charger, a TV remote he cannot find or a coffee maker that leaks points to a gift that fixes a daily annoyance.
3. Notice what he borrows. If he keeps using your earbuds or your tablet, he probably wants his own but will not buy it.
4. Ask the people around him. A partner or sibling often knows what he has mentioned in passing.
5. When in doubt, give time. A planned outing with you is a gift that a dad who wants nothing is unlikely to turn down.

How ShopBack US lowers what you pay for a gift

ShopBack works like an automatic cash discount on your online order. You still buy from Best Buy, Target or Macy's at their price; ShopBack sends part of what you spent back to you as cash.

Cashback lowers what you actually pay for an order. It comes back as cash, so it works like a discount on the price, not like points or miles.

Here is a worked example with an illustrative rate: on a 150 dollar gift at an illustrative 4%, 6 dollars comes back, so the effective price is 144 dollars. Rates differ by store and change often, so check the live rate on the Best Buy, Target or Macy's page on ShopBack US before you buy. Some product types, gift cards or third-party listings may not qualify, and those terms are shown on each store's page. Our guide on activating before you buy walks through the steps, and how to save at Best Buy covers that store in more depth.

Frequently asked questions

What are good gifts for a dad who wants nothing?

Good gifts for a dad who wants nothing are things he will use up, such as good coffee or his favorite snacks, a better version of something he already uses every day, such as headphones, slippers or a wallet, and help or time, such as setting up his tech or planning a day out together. Best Buy, Target and Macy's cover most of these in the US. Start on ShopBack before you check out so part of what you spend comes back as cash.

What do you get a dad who says he does not need anything?

Watch what he uses most and replace the worn-out version with a better one. A dad who says he needs nothing usually still wears the same slippers, uses the same old phone charger and drinks coffee every morning. An upgrade to something he already uses feels useful rather than like clutter.

What is a good last-minute gift for dad?

A gift you can order online and collect the same day is a reliable last-minute choice. According to Target, its Drive Up and Order Pickup services are free and orders are usually ready within a couple of hours. Best Buy says it offers in-store and curbside pickup. A gift card or a planned outing also works if time runs out.

When is Father's Day 2027?

In the US, Father's Day falls on the third Sunday in June, so in 2027 it is Sunday 20 June. For 2026 holiday gifts, Black Friday is Friday 27 November, Cyber Monday is Monday 30 November and Christmas Day falls on a Friday.

Is a gift card a good gift for dad?

It can be, especially for a dad who likes to choose things himself. A gift card to a store he already shops, such as Best Buy, Target or Macy's, lets him pick the exact item. Pair it with a short note naming what you thought he might like so it feels personal.

Are experience gifts better than physical gifts for dad?

For a dad who does not want more things, an experience is often the better fit because it takes up no space. Ideas include tickets to a game, a cooking or tasting class, a round of golf, or a planned day out together. Book it for a set date so it actually happens.

What tech gifts are good for a dad who wants nothing?

Practical tech that solves a small daily annoyance tends to land best: wireless earbuds or headphones, a faster phone charger, a smart speaker or a smart tracker for keys. Best Buy says it runs a holiday Gifting Center with curated gift guides, and My Best Buy Plus and Total members get a 60-day return window on most products.

Should I buy dad's gift at Best Buy, Target or Macy's?

Each suits a different gift. Best Buy suits tech, gaming and smart home gifts, with member pricing and longer member returns. Target suits mixed baskets of snacks, home items and small gifts, with free Drive Up and Order Pickup. Macy's suits clothing, shoes, fragrance and watches. Compare the same item at each store before you buy.

How much should I spend on a gift for dad?

There is no set amount, and a dad who wants nothing usually values thought over price. Set a budget first, then spend it on one item he will use often rather than several he will not. Shopping in a sale window and starting on ShopBack lowers what you actually pay.

How does ShopBack lower the price of a gift for dad?

ShopBack works like an automatic cash discount on your online order. Open the store's page on ShopBack US, such as Best Buy, Target or Macy's, activate it, then check out as usual, and part of what you spent comes back as cash. Your effective price is what you paid minus that cash. The live rate and terms are on each store's ShopBack page.
