When to visit Cancun from the US
The best months for a Cancun trip from the US are December to April for dry, breezy weather and peak resort season, May and November as quieter shoulder months, and June to early November for cheaper rates with a hurricane-season tradeoff. How to handle money in Cancun: USD, MXN, US credit cards, and tipping
USD is widely accepted in the Hotel Zone, Playa del Carmen Quinta Avenida, and Tulum tourist zones, but at less favourable exchange rates than MXN. US credit cards work at most card-accepting merchants; carry small MXN notes for tipping (10 to 15 percent at restaurants, $1 to $2 USD per bag for resort porters).
At Hotel Zone all-inclusives, USD is accepted at face value; outside the gates, MXN gets a fairer rate at every restaurant, taxi, and shop. ATMs at CUN and in the Hotel Zone dispense MXN at better rates than airport currency desks.
